‘Snatch’ TV Series in the Works with ‘Harry Potter’ Star Rupert Grint

     August 22, 2016

snatch-sliceWhile Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson continued their Hollywood ascensions after fulfilling their commitments to the Harry Potter franchise, Rupert Grint slowed down a bit, featuring in only a handful of titles. However, today brings word that the actor will star in a new TV series from Crackle called Snatch, based on the movie of the same name starring Jason Statham and Brad Pitt — not the popular Snatch Game from Rupaul’s Drag Race.

The film was directed by Guy Ritchie and first released in December 2000 before a wider release the following month. The story featured unscrupulous individuals fighting to track down a priceless stolen diamond. The Snatch series will focus on a group of 20-something, amateurish hustlers who happen upon stolen gold bullion and the danger that find brings out.

According to a press release, Grint will play Charlie Cavendish, described as “dynamic, frustratingly chaotic, and utterly posh.” Dougray Scott (Fear the Walking Dead) will play Vic Hill and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl) will have a guest role as Sonny Castillo. Production on the 10 hourlong episodes will begin in Manchester, England next week with director Nick Renton (The Musketeers).

The show is the latest in what has become a trend of adaptation movies for the small screen. Scream proved to a popular one for MTV, while Limitless and 12 Monkeys are still going strong at CBS and Syfy respectively. Many of these, however, are hit or miss.

Snatch will premiere sometime in 2017. Here’s the official synopsis:

Inspired by a real-life heist in London, “Snatch,” centers on a group of twenty-something, up-and-coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime. The boys must quickly learn to navigate the treacherous waters of London’s underworld as rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters, and local villains descend.
