As you can tell by the absolutely massive amount of Comic-Con content on the site at the moment, it’s been a whirlwind last few days here in San Diego at Comic-Con 2014.  The festivities are winding down, and while we still have a fair amount of SDCC content yet to post, this Sunday we thought we’d bring the large majority of people that were unable to attend the convention a little closer to arguably the biggest panel of the convention: Marvel.  This year, Marvel Studios showcased Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man during its Saturday night Hall H panel, and while the lack of surprises made the proceedings a tad underwhelming, it was nevertheless an entertaining affair.  If you haven’t already, be sure to read our full Avengers: Age of Ultron panel recap and Ant-Man panel recap.

After the jump, you’ll find __ Marvel Comic-Con images from both panels, featuring Robert Downey Jr., Paul Rudd, Chris Evans, Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Douglas, Chris Hemsworth, Evangeline Lilly, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Stoll, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Bettany, James Spader, director Peyton Reed, and Thanos himself Josh Brolin

At a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 for the first sequel ever to a Quentin Tarantino film, the comic book Django Meets Zorro, Tarantino tackled the question on everybody’s mind: The Hateful Eight. As you’re aware, Tarantino was planning to shoot the Western as his next film until the script leaked online and he put everything on hold. During the Comic-Con panel, one of the audience members point blank asked Tarantino if he’ll be making the script as his next feature, following recent word that it could be heating back up again. Tarantino hemmed and hawed for a bit – before finally committing: “Yeah – We’re going to be doing The Hateful Eight.” So there you have it: The Hateful Eight will be the next Quentin Tarantino feature.

The story follows a group of passengers on a stagecoach that get caught and trapped in a blizzard, where they’re forced to confront the ratcheting tension that develops.  Tarantino previously staged a reading of the script that included Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell, Amber Tamblyn, Michael MadsenJames RemarWalton GogginsZoe Bell, and Samuel L. Jackson, so most or all of those actors could appear in the finished film. As previously reported, filming might begin as soon as this November. Comic Con: Executive Producer/Writer Andrew Kreisberg Talks about the Debut of The CW’s New Superhero Series THE FLASH and Season 3 of ARROW

When you’re at Comic Con, it’s all about the superheroes. Even when waiting on line at a nearby Starbucks, there via a flat-screen above, Batman plays on a continuous loop. They are omnipresent. And while everyone here ponders DC’s planned film-verse and how they can possibly fit Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman into one film, DC has quietly proven these queries moot albeit via a completely different medium. On television, DC has crammed a plethora of Justice League characters – The Green Arrow, Black Canary, The Flash – all onto its flagship show: Arrow.  This year, DC attempts to further its monopolization of the CW Network by spinning off The Flash as its own series.

At a group roundtable for Arrow and The Flash, I spoke with Executive Producer/Writer Andrew Kreisberg about what to expect on the third season of Arrow, the series game plan for The Flash and how Buffy the Vampire Slayer influenced crossovers between the two. For the full interview, hit the jump.

Comic-Con: Stephen Amell Talks ARROW Season 3, When His Character Will Become ‘The Green Arrow,’ and Being Tired of Talking about ‘Justice League’

The consummate under-dog, CW’s Arrow quietly staked a claim in the periphery of the DC-verse at the outset of the 2012 TV season. I don’t think anyone expected much from the show – and early episodes struggled to balance its comic-book aspirations under a TV-friendly budget. But over the course of its first season and especially in its second year, Arrow slowly came into its own, deftly balancing sci-fi heavy tropes within a surprisingly grounded moral quagmire. It became clear that Arrow himself wasn’t the prototypical hero he or the audience initially believed. As the dark nuances of the titular character were explored, the show grew by result. Much of the credit to the show’s qualitative success can, of course, be laid at the feet of star Stephen Amell. Amell has since become the poster-child for the DC Television verse – and with his dapper looks and sharp stare it’s not hard to see why.

In the following round table interview with star Stephen Amell, he discusses just when the character will finally become ‘The Green Arrow’, his relationship status on the show, and why he’s sick to death of talking about The Justice League. For the full interview, hit the jump.

Comic-Con: THE STRAIN “He Is Here” Event Featuring Guillermo del Toro with over 20 Images

The Strain Comic-Con Event Images

The FX drama series The Strain is creepy, gory and just bloody good fun.  Having seen eight of the 13 episodes that will make up Season 1, I can say that it’s everything I’d want from a summer TV series, sprouted from the crazy imaginative mind of Guillermo del Toro.

Taking advantage of their time at Comic-Con, The Strain held an exclusive fan event, called “He Is Here,” at the Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15.  While showrunner Carlton Cuse and most of the cast dropped by to greet the line, Guillermo del Toro spent quite some time in the theater lobby, chatting with fans and signing the posters that were given out.  Even comic book artist Mike Huddleston was there, signing and sketching.  And, of course, The Master himself introduced the screening of the pilot episode.  Hit the jump for photos of a collection of prominent props and costumes that were on display from the show.

Mexico’s Day of the Dead will be brought to life in the animated fantasy adventure tale, The Book of Life.  A vibrant, magical and romantic journey, the story will tell the legend of Manolo (Diego Luna), a conflicted hero and dreamer who sets off on an epic quest in order to rescue his one true love and defend his village.  The voice cast also includes Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Christina Applegate, Ron Perlman, Danny Trejo, Ice Cube and Cheech Marin.

While at Comic-Con for a presentation in Hall H, co-stars Channing Tatum, Christina Applegate and Ron Perlman spoke to press during a conference, in which they talked about what they enjoy about the voice-over process, what it’s like to see their voice matched to the finished product, what was appealing about the story, working without an actual script, and how they would describe the film.  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

comic con bates motel season 3 interview

Bates Motel has been home to one of the strangest but also fascinating mother-son relationships on television.  With Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore delivering exceptional performances each week, it’s no wonder the show’s garnered such a loyal audience.  Before the cast:  Farmiga, Highmore, Nestor Carbonell, and Olivia Cooke hit the Comic-Con stage along with executive producers, Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin, they sat down with us for a round table interview to discuss what’s in store for Season 3.

The cast talked about their expectations for their characters and offered their opinion on some of the relationships that still remain unexplored on the show.  And the producers were kind enough to give us some hints of what to expect when Bates Motel begins filming this fall.  Hit the jump for more.

Television shows based off comic book superheroes and franchises are nothing new.  With the recent booming successes of the Marvel and DC world, we now have shows like Arrow, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carterand The Flashall building on heroes and worlds we have already seen.  Fox’s new show Gothamhowever, may be one of the most ambitious attempts yet, choosing to focus not on the central character of Batman, but to explore the origins of the city itself and the insane cast of characters it has created, both good and evil. At the center of the show is Ben McKenzie as a young Detective Jim Gordon, who comes onto the force to work with veteran Harvey Bullock, played by Donal Logue.  Main antagonists that emerge are Jada Pinkett Smith as an original character, Fish Mooney, and Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepott, the man who becomes the Penguin.  Balancing out the cast are Erin Richards as Gordon’s mysterious fiancee Barbara Kean,David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, and Sean Pert as Alfred Pennyworth.

Collider was able to speak with Logue, Pinkett Smith, Taylor, Richards, and series creator Bruno Heller while they were at Comic-Con.  Hit the jump for some highlights.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Trailer – Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron Bring the Madness, Plus a More Detailed Plot Synopsis and Character Description

mad-max-fury-road-trailer

Warner Bros. has released the first Mad Max: Fury Road trailer for director George Miller’s highly anticipated fourth installment in the Mad Max franchise.  The post-apocalyptic actioner sees Tom Hardy filling the role of Max, a man seeking peace following the loss of his wife and child, while Charlize Theron plays Furiosa, a woman who aims to survive by trekking across the desert back to her homeland.  You’ll have to watch this trailer a few times, not to glean any plot details but just to catch bits and pieces of the insanity on display.  It’s certainly in line with the madness of the previous films, though it remains to be seen whether or not Hardy can fill Mel Gibson’s spiked boots because he’s incapacitated for the most part of this first look.  Still, there’s lots to be excited for – car crashes, insane leather fetishes, slavers, open-desert high-speed chases, two-headed geckos, etc – especially after such a long delay.

FIGHT CLUB Comic-Con Panel Recap; Chuck Palahniuk and David Fincher Recall the Battles Behind the Original Book and Film

fight-club-comic-con-panel-recap

There wasn’t very much talk at all of the recently announced Dark Horse Fight Club 2 comic during the panel with author Chuck Palahniuk and director David Fincher on Saturday night at the San Diego Comic-Con.  And there were absolutely no new images shown (or any kind of visual presentation for that matter).  But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a thrilling panel for fans of Fincher, Palahniuk, the original book and the 1999 film.

It was a mostly anecdotal affair, full of stories and trivia about the making of the classic Brad Pitt, Edward Norton film and the inception of Palahniuk’s novel (with a little bit of information about the upcoming sequel).  Which meant it was a perfectly satisfying event for those who lined up for hours to celebrate what has now become a legitimate pop culture phenomenon.  Also present were Palahniuk’s longtime editor Gerald Howard (Doubleday) and moderator Rick Kleffel.  Hit the jump for our Fight Club Comic-Con panel recap.

Comic-Con welcomed the cast of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story:  Coven for the first time since the anthology premiered on October 2011.  The hour opened with a video presentation that highlighted the season in its entirety before the cast was brought on stage.  Those in attendance were executive producer Tim Minear and cast members:  Angela BassettKathy BatesSarah PaulsonEvan PetersEmma Roberts, and the newest actor to join the AHS family, Michael Chiklis.  The FX drama is known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to violence and horror, and based on what was discussed in Saturday’s panel, the next installment will be taking that up a notch or two.

The laughs abounded among the cast members and the audience as they thought back to Coven’s most memorable scenes.  And while Bates joked that Murphy is quite difficult to work with, the consensus was that the experience had been a wonderful one.  There were also some tidbits given of what we can expect from this fall’s next chapter, American Horror Story:  Freak Show.  Hit the jump for highlights from the panel.

Paul Bettany Talks AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, The Vision, His Powers and Abilities, His Relationship to The Avengers, and More

by     Posted 19 hours ago

paul-bettany-avengers-age-of-ultron-interview

I never thought I’d see one actor play two characters within the cinematic Marvel universe, but if anyone can do it, Paul Bettany can.  As the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark’s constant AI companion since the first Iron Man film, Bettany is one of the longest standing members of the Marvel crew.  In Avengers: Age of Ultron Bettany steps into the shoes (or cape) of the Vision.  A newly created android who is somehow maybe sort of related to J.A.R.V.I.S. – unsurprisingly they weren’t telling us a whole lot in advance of Marvel’s Hall H panel.

Earlier today at Comic-Con I sat down for a group interview with Bettany about the Vision Age of Ultron.  He walked up to the table, pretending to read a message on his phone intently, “I’m just looking up something.  Yep, I can’t say anything.”  And while he remained pretty tight-lipped, dodging many questions with clever quips, he did talk about Joss Whedon’s passion for all things Marvel, James Spader’s Ultron, Vision’s abilities and powers, his relationship with the Avengers, his genitals (seriously), and more.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.
