New Art from SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN Features Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron

Just a few days ago, that other Snow White movie (the one directed by Tarsem Singh described as a light “comedic adventure”) finally got a title: Mirror Mirror. Now some new artwork has been released from the competing project based on the classic fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman. This one, directed by Rupert Sanders, is more in the vein of a Lord of the Rings-style epic, and is said to be rather dark and gritty in tone. Based on what I saw at the film’s Comic-Con panel, Sanders isn’t pulling any punches, and we’re in for quite the visual treat if his feature directorial debut will be anything close to the reel he showed us at the panel. This artwork is very much along those lines, and I think people are gonna be surprised when a trailer is eventually released.

Hit the jump to check out the image. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Noah Huntley, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Steven Graham. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis for Snow White and the Huntsman:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her.  But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her.  Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Sooo…hes playing Thor again in this?

    • Twistednic

Ummmmmm no. Clearly that’s a big AXE in his hand, not a hammer. I mean, like, have you ever seen Thor?

      /facepalm

    • Bailey

ummm i would recommend glasses for you sir

    • Jamie

Chris looks ruggedly handsome, Kristen looks slightly ethereal but luckily not overly delicate and Charlize just looks fiercely evil.

      I love it!
      The banner looks fantastic!
Early b-day present for me YAY

    like what i see

  • Janine

I am soo seeing this <3

  • jymmmymack

Pass. If I want to see a film that is trying to evoke Lord of the Rings, I’ll go see The Hobbit.

  • Hatter

Looks exactly like Alice in Wonderland’s poster right?

    • Josh

My thought exactly. I mean really, Stewart’s already in the center of the banner in a field of ‘shrooms, why not just have her put on white face paint and start skipping?

  • guest

i’ll just see the hobbit instead.

    • Johan

The Hobbit comes out about 6 and a half months after this.

      • guest

lol. it wouldn’t matter if the hobbit came out a year after this. it will still be better. roth from the beginning has been trying to make this movie like the lord of the rings.

      • Johan

No he didn’t. He made one quote at the Comicon panel about the “scope” of the project being more like LoTR when he was asked how their movie compared respectively to the other Snow White project. His point was to show how different the two films would be, not compete with LotR by any means. Obviously this film will be no where near LoTR’s level based on budget and schedule. IMO, nothing is on LoTR level. If I see one movie in 2012 it will be The Hobbit but I gotta say this looks very interesting in it’s own right.

  • Strong Enough

I read the spec script and The huntsman has like a hundred fu*king hatches on him that he throws throughout the movie lmao

  • batmanrules

I think I might go see this movie but it all depends on the trailer!

It’s funny how there was that big to do about which of these Snow White movies was going to come out first, and then they were both snookered by ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

  • O.R.

Wasn’t Snow White supposed to be prettier than the Evil Queen? ‘Cause Kristen Stewart’s looking as plain as she can get, especially in comparison to Charlize Theron.

Wow, that is a bit bitchy O.R. As someone who has read the script, the Evil Queen’s beauty doesn’t come naturally so that isn’t a huge factor. I’m excited to see what Rupert Sanders can do. The Hobbit comparisons are silly, the movies are seven months apart and about the only thing they have in common is that they are fantasy films with dark visuals. I am sure The Hobbit will be a better film, but this will most likely be a fun film with interesting visuals and a strong female heroine.
