As their respective release dates loom closer, the battle between the two Snow White films is heating up. A new international trailer for Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror was recently released, and today Universal has released two new images from Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. One of them gives us a peek at a burly Chris Hemsworth flanked by the eight dwarves. Yes, in Snow White and the Huntsman there are eight dwarves (something to do with a rights issue), but they look like a pretty formidable band of warriors here. Sanders assembled a pretty damn impressive roster of actors to play the dwarves, including Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Ian McShane.
Hit the jump to check out the images, which also include a new look at Charlize Theron as the evil Queen. I continue to be impressed by what I see from Huntsman, and I’m sincerely hoping that the full film delivers a grand, epic adventure. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st.

Here’s the official synopsis for Snow White and the Huntsman:
In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.
The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

In order to whittle down the number of dwarves to seven, like we’re used to seeing whenever they are accompanied with Snow White, will they take the route of the ABC show Once Upon a Time and kill off one of them during the course of the movie?
There isnt much of a battle as far as I am concerned. Snow White and the Huntsman has established itself as a far more intriguing movie from day one. I don’t know how much better it will truly be, but it has certainly slaughtered mirror mirror in the marketing campaign. Mirror Mirror rightfully or no looks like crap and The Huntsman looks great. That is what the trailors and image campaigns have shown so far. Not much of a contest.
Oh, yeah, that’s right, that OTHER film that features 8+ Dwarves that comes out this year.
Peter Jackson wins. Fili, Kili, Nori, Dori, Ori, Bofur, Bombur, Bifur, Oin, Gloin, Balin, Dwalin and Thorin all win.
But this looks better than I was anticipating. It just has the extreme misfortune as coming out in the same year as An Unexpected Journey, which is trumping every single movie even fathomed to come out this year.
I don’t know about extreme misfortune. This one is coming out in June and The Hobbit is coming out in December. Not sure ANY people will forgo Snow White and the Huntsman because another movie is coming out 6 months later. :/
I’m pretty sure The Hobbit will be much better, but I’m also pretty sure I’ll be seeing both.
