The sudden rush to remake the Snow White fairytale into a movie is not borne of the purest of motives.  (This is perhaps best evidenced in just how rancid Mirror, Mirror looks.)  But to the extent that marketing can be trusted, the Snow White movement may give us something breathtaking in Snow White and the Huntsman.  A new Japanese teaser trailer has hit the net—spotting the new stuff has never been a strength for this writer, but other sites promise there is new footage within.  Aside from that, the international clip successfully sells me on the epic potential in less than a minute.  Massive scope, brutal battles, beautiful cinematography, inventive creature design, striking visual effects… it’s all there.  I invite you to watch for yourself after the jump.

Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, and Charlize Theron star in the feature directorial debut of Rupert SandersSnow White and the Huntsman opens on June 1.

Official synopsis:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Epic? people need to stop using that word. This is about as epic as that horrible 2004 King Arthur or Robin Hood. Just cause you see someone swinging a sword and a whole bunch of horses riding into battle doesn’t make it epic. This looks like dung

I still think they should have gotten someone other than Kristen Stewart. Amber Heard, Emma Rossum, Jennifer lawrence, Aimee Teagraden, ANYBODY! Otherwise the movie looks really solid. Hopefully, she’ll surprise or at least be tolerable in this. She’s really only got like 5 acting moves (1. Bite lip. 2. Furrow brow pensively 3. Put hands in pockets and hunch shoulders up awkwardly 4. Give irritated “I can believe this” sigh 5. run fingers through hair)

Notice also they didn’t show her much in this advert, it’s because she’s not cute enough for the japanese.

What the hell is up with all the shilling on this site? It’s lame.

  • James

I find the visual effects “striking” too… striking OUT.

I wasn’t impressed by the cheap, CG birds and the apple dissolve effect.

When did technical prowess start mattering so much and storytelling took a back seat?

    I find it quite “epic”.

I was shocked to see how good this all looked, but can’t wait to see what the final product is. Agreed with all the points above. Beautiful cinematography and art direction above all else.

looks more epic than avengers or like i call it battle la & transformers with super heroes

The fx look fine IMO but I do agree, why Kristen? I think she def has a unique beauty about her but shes nowhere near the right choice for this role.

Funny someone mentioned Aimee. I just saw her eating next to me at Momed’s in BH. Shes even prettier in the realife. Amber H, not a bad choice either. They are all better then the Twilight girl for sure.

Still, two words. Charlize Theron. I mean really. She nails this part and its already showing from just the trailers.

    Must watch for me!

The only really epic thing about this trailer was the Japanese voice-over guy’s accent.. everything sounds kinda cool and mystical spoken through a thick Japanese male accent.. “Snowa Whytoh”

    • micoy

      SNOWA WHYTOH! :D

  • Dismayed

Give me a break this is so hokey looking! The girl on Alice in Wonderland looked like she could fight. Kristen looks like Popeye’s girlfriend Olive Oil. You know her sword and sheid are painted styrofoam. What guy would be stupid enough to watch such a lame movie, Plus I don’t think they should of used the Snowwhite name at all.

  • dbrock

yeah why even make it snow white anyway? if you want to make a fantasy movie just do that instead of taking an preexisting material and making it ultra melodramatic…and those birds looked awful

Looks like a fucking perfume advert!

So where is all this “epic” footage? All i saw was some gold liquid, that c*@t from Twilight and clips of a battle they took from the recent Robin Hood beach battle. Granted, there is some nice creature design, that’s the only decent think im picking up from this.

Lord Of The Rings is epic, THIS IS NOT!!!!

  • WEV

    Looks like a perfume advert!

Biggest problem is Kristen Stewart as Snow White…I mean come on that girl is supposed to be hotter than Charlize Theron? makes no sense.

    • Bobula

      Exactly!!!

  • ska-triumph

Yeah, it’s a nice trailer though I don’t see much different from the American versions. Still using mainly The Queen’s VO. Just edited more briskly. Now the Japanese BRAVE trailer is a different matter…

But the hate from my fellow commenters about Kristen Stewart has the whiff of TWILIGHT-smoke… Like you guys are purely geeks – that respect good actors, mind you – but have no business sense.

Stewart does these so she can stretch into another potential franchise (as Hemsworth and Theron are doing!) so she can do the indie stuff. Plus, none of the other actresses (in her demo) mentioned, or otherwise, are internationally bankable (hello it’s a fantasy brand!) and/or available…

Have any of you actually read the (spec) script, the logline (above) or the original story – folktale, Disney’s version, et al.? It never asks SNOW WHITE to better looking just have deeper sense of PURITY and INNOCENCE. So in that light, Theron is supposed to be sexier than Stewart.

    There, my 2-10 cents…

Hopefully This is better than ”Red Riding Hood”. And that movie at least had the Great Gary Oldman. So we will see.

I like Kristen Stewart screw you haters. I can’t wait to see Snow White and Huntsman.
