Universal has released the first trailer for Rupert SandersSnow White and the HuntsmanKristen Stewart plays Snow White in the fairy tale adaptation, where she trains in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to fight the evil queen (Charlize Theron).  I’m with this trailer until it Theron says…”Mirror, mirror on the wall…,” and then I started to roll my eyes.  But I’m trying to give it a chance because I like the visual style and I want to resist the urge to dismiss it just because it has “Snow White” in the title. Of course, both Snow White and the Huntsman and Tarsem Singh’s Mirror, Mirror have to contend with trying to take on a new version of Snow White when for the past seventy-five years we’ve really only known the one with the singing dwarves. But at least with Sanders’ Snow White, it looks like there’s an intriguing and exciting vision behind this new take.  Your move, Singh.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 2, 2012.

Official synopsis:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her.  But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her.  Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

  1. Why no seven dwarves in the trailer? Snow White and the Huntsman will be better than Mirror, Mirror because it has the stronger cast and it will be at least be the more critically successful movie. In addition, unlike Mirror, Mirror, the Queen in this film looks like an evil villain.

  2. It lost you at “Mirror, mirror on the wall?”

You didn’t expect that to be featured? It’s the most well-known line in the story, that would be like not having “Get your hands off me you damn dirty ape!” in a POTA movie.

It’s silly for it bother you I think, but what do I know.

  3. It’s nice to hear the singles version of Zack Hemsey’s “Mind Heist” in this trailer, even though it’s not as prominent as it was in the Inception trailer.

  4. Come on, it wouldn’t be a Snow White film if we didn’t hear that famous “mirror mirror on the wall” line. What did you expect? Looks far more interesting than the other one.

  5. I think it looks pretty sweet. Digging the “Ladyhawk” soundtrack vibe. Only thing that worries me is that Kristen Stewart has pretty much one expression, well, two if you count the one where she bites her lower lip.

  6. “From the producers of Alice in Wonderland”

Really? I would have NEVER guessed that by looking at the posters.

would have loved to see the trailer though…

      • thanks brotha…I watched it and I absoultely agree with you, it looks like it will be pretty damn epic. Universals huge risk with first time director Rupert Sanders just might be a great discovery for cinema. We need more of the great, epic-type autuers like Spielberg, Nolan, Jackson, Cameron, del Toro, etc., to keep cinema alive by getting people to go to the theaters to see something amazing (recent example: Inception). Hopefully Rupert Sanders is another one of those directors.

  7. Are you sure it’s by Collider Staff? Cause when I read “started to roll my eyes,” I immediately know who was writing this sarcasm. Goldberg.

  8. Looks surprisingly interesting and more than watchable. I dig the interpretation of the magic mirror. One issue is the idea that Kristen Stewart could surpass the beauty of Charlize Theron. “Suspension of disbelief” not achieved.

  9. The video was blocked on copyright grounds. Go figure. Chris Hemsworth looks just like his Thor only in medieval garb. Plus, I think he should be carrying around his hammer, Mjolnir. Talk about quite the crossover you would have there!

  10. Not bad, but did they really feel the need to rip off Clash of the Titans in the Queen-stealing-life department. Exact duplicate.

  11. Why do people have to bash Kristen Stewart’s looks. Really? I mean unless you are absolutely stunning yourself and have the room to degrade someone’s looks, shut your mouth. Kristen might not be drop dead gorgeous, but she is beautiful. If I remember correctly, when I saw the orginal Disney picture of the movie I honestly thought that the Queen was a lot prettier than Snow White. Snow White seemed bloated and a bit plain to me. HOWEVER, the point is not that Snow White is physically more attractive than the Queen, it is that on the inside she is beautiful. Duh. Anyway; it looks amazing and I can’t wait. I loved the special effects (that mirror morph was awesome!)

    • No one said Kristen was ugly, she’s just no Charlize Theron. And I stand by comment that she is only capable of one or two expressions.

  12. I’m down for this, but pretty sure that the fact they didn’t let Kristen Stewart talk in the trailer makes me think she will ruin this and the studio already knows it.

  13. come on. this looks about as epic as “King Arthur” and if you reply to me and say King Arthur was epic…i feel very sorry for you

    Tarsem FTW!

  14. Is it just me or does the imagery of this film look like it would be a Tarsem Sing movie? Funny that he’s doing the other Snow White movie.

  15. I like, is different and don’t be like you know a lot of movies. Is a very good trailer , wait for the second one , you will learn more. And then we can write our opinion.
