Radius-TWC has released a new Snowpiercer trailer.  Directed by Bong Joon-ho (The Host), the story is set in a new ice age caused by a failed experiment to stop global warming that killed virtually all life on the planet.  The sole survivors live on a train called Snowpiercer—powered by a perpetual machine—who struggle with the class system implemented on the train.  The movie looks terrific and worth the wait since it was released in South Korea last August.  Bong has apparently managed to pull off a strong mix of sci-fi, action, and social commentary, and I’m excited to see how it all comes together.

Hit the jump to check out the new Snowpiercer trailer.  The film opens on June 27th and stars Chris Evans, John HurtJamie BellEd HarrisAlison PillEwen BremnerOctavia SpencerKang-ho Song, and Ko Asung.

Here’s the official synopsis for Snowpiercer:

In this sci-fi epic from director Bong Joon-Ho (The Host, Mother), a failed global-warming experiment kills off most life on the planet.  The final survivors board the SNOWPIERCER, a train that travels around the globe via a perpetual-motion engine. When cryptic messages incite the passengers to revolt, the train thrusts full-throttle towards disaster.

When it finished I thought it was great, but the more I think about it the more I realize its pretty much a masterpiece. Bong Joon-ho is a master.

I have to agree. One of cinema’s greatest dystopias.

Yea buts it gonna be a BO fail

It’s a south korean movie that cost 40M and has already made 80 before it’s released in the USA. Expectations here will be low, and frankly it doesn’t matter how much it makes here. Why the negativity?

Absolutely the best movie of the year. Best sci-fi since District 9. Brutal, blistering action, a stunning cast and a BEAST of a performance from Chris Evans, great social commentary and themes, and some unforgettable images.

    Cons: wonky CGI.
Pros: Chris Evans will knock your socks off, and the action is so fast, bone-crunching, realistic, and moving it will haunt you for a long time.

    A+

No. The best performance goes to Tilda Swinton.

      • The Flobbit

Disagree. Chris Evans had such gravitas, charisma, and authority – he was a born leader. You could see the hungry animal look of desperation in his eyes. Brilliant.

Chris Evans was a huge surprise for me. That monologue.

      • The Flobbit

And that axe-fight. And that shot of his face in the Engine room – so many stunning emotions.
