If 19 Emmy nominations isn’t confirmation enough that Glee co-creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy is doing something right, perhaps the $5 million Sony is paying him will be. Today, Deadline is reporting that Murphy and Sony Pictures have agreed to a deal that would pay him $2.5 million to write and another $2.5 million to direct an untitled star vehicle for Julia Roberts.
In spite of the fact that Murphy and Roberts’ first project together, the forthcoming drama Eat, Pray, and Love, has yet to hit the big screen, Sony apparently has great faith in the Murphy-Roberts combo. For more information on Murphy’s $5 million dollar idea, hit the jump.
Per the report, Roberts will play a “working woman married to a stay-at-home husband. When Roberts loses her job, their roles are reversed, and she has to adjust to motherhood,” (Note to self: find time to write two-sentence pitch and sell it for millions). Producing alongside Murphy will be Plan B’s Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner who also produced the aforementioned Eat, Pray, and Love. Although Murphy will soon return to Glee, he hopes to begin writing soon so as to have the film ready for production next year, just in time for his contractual “out” which allows him to direct a film.
Stay tuned for more info on the untitled project. In the meantime, Murphy and Roberts’ Eat, Pray, and Love will hit theaters later this summer on August 13th.
