Back in late March, we reported that the opening chase sequece of Sam Mendes' upcoming James Bond film Spectre would be located in Mexico City during the Day of the Dead festival. While this new behind-the-scenes video is short on action, it goes a long way towards establishing the eye-catching look of the sequence that is to be the audience's introduction to the film. From the get-go the clip features the iconic skull masks, fantastic costume design, and over-the-top theatrical nature of the Day of the Dead festival, making it a perfect dramatic backdrop for Spectre's opening.

Mendes had the following to say about the sequence:

“I wanted the audience to be dropped right into the middle of a very, very specific, very heady, rich environment. It’s the Day of the Dead, everywhere you look there’s colour and detail and life. We’ve built floats and maquettes, the costumes are extraordinary and the craftsmanship is amazing."

Here's the behind-the-scenes video itself:

Now picture those costumed extras marching through that setting while Daniel Craig's Bond is escorting Estrella (Stephanie Sigman), both of them enjoying the sights and sounds of the parade. If you're curious to see where the scene goes after that, head on back to the above-mentioned link for more scene descriptions, which are spoilery.

Spectre opens November 6th and also stars Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as M, Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser, Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, David Bautista as Mr. Hinx, and Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann.

Here’s the official synopsis for Spectre:

In SPECTRE, a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.  Sam Mendes returns to direct SPECTRE, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as 007 for the fourth time. SPECTRE is produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, from a script by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade.
