The theme song for the new James Bond film, Spectre, will be released tomorrow, and it’s mighty impressive that we didn’t know for sure who would be performing the new song until today. Adele (rightfully) won an Oscar for her glorious “Skyfall” in, well, Skyfall, and she set an incredibly high bar for whoever would be following in her footsteps. But that’s kind of true for Spectre as a whole, as director Sam Mendes returned at the helm to try and top what is now hailed as one of the best Bond films ever made.

Speculation has run rampant over the last few months regarding just who might be performing the theme for Spectre, but Sony and MGM have been able to keep a lid on the identity of the artist who wrote and recorded the song in secret. That changes tomorrow when, per HitFix, the song will be unveiled to the public at large, and today it looks like we got our confirmation of just whose voice we’ll be hearing:

Yep, it’s Sam Smith. The “I’m Not the Only One” performer had been a rumored possibility for some time, but with no confirmation, there was also talk of Radiohead or Ellie Goulding being behind the song. With this tweet of Smith’s ring sporting the SPECTRE logo, it appears the cat’s out of the bag.

I’m not sure “Skyfall” can be topped, but Smith has an incredible voice so I’m certainly looking forward to seeing what he’s put together. Tomorrow’s unveiling of the song coincides with ticket pre-sales beginning for Spectre, so it appears that Sony’s marketing campaign is about to be kicked into overdrive. Has Mendes put together a worthy follow-up? Will Bond’s origin story ruin the intrigue of this enduring character? Is Christoph Waltz Blofeld? We’ll find out when the movie hits UK theaters on October 26th and US theaters on November 6th.
