While MTV posts some of the dumbest hitwhoring stories on the internet like what you favorite “Twilight” star had for breakfast, they still manage to land interviews with some of the biggest directors in Hollywood. So when they sat down with Sam Raimi earlier today, they managed to get an update on the long in development “Spider-Man 4″. Even though MTV decided to break up the interview over the next week, they did manage to find out filming is set to begin the first week of March. More after the jump:

Of course with “Spider-Man 4′s” release date of May 6, 2011, you knew filming had to get going pretty soon. After all, it takes about a year to get all the special effects finished, so a March start makes a lot of sense.

The other bit of news from MTV’s interview is pre-production is in full swing and Sam Raimi is working with screenwriter Gary Ross right now. Raimi said, “He’s working on a draft. I just gave him some notes and he’s doing a rewrite right now.”

As far as casting, Sam says “None of the casting has really taken place, but we’re starting to think about that now.”

With a script not yet completed, it’s hard to do casting and move forward in other departments. After all, not having a finished script is what did in “Spider-Man 3″. I’m glad they’ve been taking the time on the “Spider-Man 4″ script, although I am a bit worried so many people have worked on drafts and it’s still not in a place that everyone is happy.

MTV says they’ll have more with Raimi soon and it’ll include where he wants to take the Peter Parker character, which villain(s) might be showing up on the big screen, and more. I just hope they also asked what “Twilight” star would be perfect for a role in “Spider-Man”, because no story is complete without a “Twilight” question.

I just hope that they come up with a better story than what “Spider-man 3″ had. That story just relied on the action, and was full of holes.

Well I for one am hoping that they can redeem themselves after part 3. It was clear that Raimi did not understand (Nor want to) Venom. Avi Arad unfortunately was responsible for “making” Raimi include Venom in part 3. I extremely disappointed that the symbiote couldn’t mimick any clothes that Peter could come up with like in the books! That would have been soooo cool!

It’s hard for me to fathom a “Venom” movie without some kind of appearance by Spidey. They only need Tobey to do voice over work, they could have anyone in the suit for the Venom film. I’d like them to bring Venom back to his roots and NOT MAKE HIM an anti-hero. That’s what killed his popularity, but given the events of Spidey 3 I have NO IDEA how they are going to approach this project without using Eddie Brock since he bit it in Spidey 3…..maybe they should use current continuity and have Mac Gargan (the original Scorpion) be Venom….. hmmmmm…..

Spider-Man 3 wasn’t as bad as some people like to state. In my opinion, its better than the first film. Yes, there should’ve been more thought put into the characterisations, especially Venom’s character. I personally don’t care for Raimi’s editing which is often poorly done, and some of the dialogue can be a bit underwhelming. But there are many scenes that surpass the negatives to make the films difficult to ignore.

I think Raimi has learned the lessons of Spider-Man 3. I, like all the fans, hope he can surpass even Spider-Man 2. What is needed in part 4 is a visually interesting villain (please not Mysterio). Maybe Patrick Stewart can play Vulture? :P I hope not to see Vulture, either. I’d love to see Scorpion or Lizard, maybe even an updated Kraven. Or the Enforcers. They would be interesting.. Or Kingpin though I’m unsure if Fox maintain that character’s rights at the moment..

Anyway, its exciting time to be alive when it comes to comic books being brought to the Big Screen. Sean

Contrary to if people like it or not though this movie will bring in crowds of people and be one of the biggest films of that summer…
