Actors on SPIDER-MAN Shortlist include Aaron Johnson, Anton Yelchin, Logan Lerman, Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell

After months of rumors, speculation, and news coverage regarding who will be taking over the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the reboot of the franchise, it’s starting to sound like Sony’s Columbia Pictures will be making their decision real soon.

As we recently reported, both Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) were added to the list of contenders.  Now, a report from Deadline reveals that studio decision makers spent Friday reviewing the screen tests of most of the actors who are finalists for the much coveted role.  Hit the jump to find out which actors had their screen tests viewed and also for a bit more on the current state of production.

Deadline mentions that although no one has actually been cast yet and there still might be some candidates added to the mix, most likely the role will go to one of the actors who had their screen test viewed on Friday.  Along with Johnson and Yelchin, the actors include: Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), Andrew Garfield (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, David Fincher’s upcoming, The Social Network), Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot), and Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro).  Both Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half -Blood Prince) and Michael Angarano (Gentlemen Broncos) are also still being considered, but it is uncertain whether or not they actually did a screen test.

Ultimately, it seems a decision has to be made in the near future, since production is supposed to begin sometime later this year. Once the role of Peter Parker is set in stone, the studio will be able to focus on choosing a supporting cast that will play well off its main actor. As reported, the 3D film is being penned by Jamie Vanderbilt (The Losers, Zodiac) and will be directed by indie filmmaker, Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer).  We’ll bring you more on any casting decisions as soon as we hear them.

except for the 1st guy in that collage, everyone looks too old for being a high-schooler..

The ONLY reason why this movie is being made is so that Sony can keep the rights to the franchise for a few more years. That is the same reason why there are more X-men movies being made by Fox. God forbid the rights go back to Marvel where it has a higher chance of actually being a good movie!!! I'm NOT excited about this film at all. I don't trust investor-controlled bankers who have NO concept of the process of making a film.

Jamie bell is the most interesting choice. Shocked but happy that Hutcherson isnt on latest list.

  • Django3000

Anton Yelchin. Anton Yelchin. Anton Yelchin.

    Anthon Yelchin.

  • Kel

Anton Yelchin FTW, although having the Fright Night remake coming up might hurt him. Aaron Johnson would be good too. It's very possible that he could end up being Cyclops or one of the other X-men too.

  • Thebizman35

Logan Lerman is the best choice on the list!

  • Kumquat

Tobey Maguire looked too old for a high-schooler. But he pulled it off.

  • spideyfan

    yup Logan Lerman=teenage Peter Parker/Spiderman!

  • NightAvatar

Jamie Bell is certainly an interesting choice, but imo far too old for to play a high-school Parker. Lerman would be best of these, though he's not the best actor of the bunch.

While I like some of the actors up there (namely Andrew Garfield who is too good for this reboot) none of them speak Peter Parker to me. Or Spiderman. They all speak White Guy who is of the right age and/or looks the right age.

Logan or Yelchin! I like Lerhmans look. He reminds me of Parker. But I like Yelchins voice, it really stands out and I can picture it coming from a spiderman mask with his jokes and one liners. And he's also a really good actor.

  • saraamw

Lerman. Johnson already is Kick Ass.

  • Kou Lor01

Anton Yelchin is my only choice for Spider-Man. anybody agree with me? reply this

They don't have to look the perfect age – don't forget it's a MOVIE. Travolta looked way too old for high school in Grease but fuck did that casting work. Yelchin or Bell.
Logan Lerman should not be allowed near this thing.

  • Cad Bane

    Aaron Johnson or Michael Angarano.

This whole thing is such a non-event. Has anyone, anywhere, heard anyone else say “i just can't wait for Spiderman reboot!”. No – no one has and no one will because no on does. It is the most most uninspired money grab since Shrek 4.

  • Collin V.

    definitely Jamie Bell

  • [A]

true — and he also looked older than any of these new guys haha

Johnson deserves it, they should cast Yelchin as Harry Osbourne.

  • Nunegro

Stop playing around and give it to Aaron. IN Kick-ass he showed me a very Peter Parker-type attitude. Though I suppose it doesn't matter. This film is being added to the same list as Twilight; Films I never plan to see.

    Logan Lerman = Peter Parker
    Anton Yelchin = Harry Osborne

  • robbie

    Jamie Bell for Spiderman.
I see that Harry Knowles at AICN has already debunked the Deadline article about this. Seems we are none the wiser.

Am I the only one who still thinks the spiderman reboot is a bad idea? They could've made a 4th spiderman movie with the same cast. I am dissapointed, now we have to watch the origins all over again.

  • Carson1213

How is Taylor Lautner not the obvious choice? He's the only young popular, and age appropriate actor out there.

  • Ringbearer1420

I think most of the public is still thinking another Sam Raimi one is coming out. Hasn't cast the reboot takin longer thatln it would of for Raimi to get 4 into 'pre production?

  • Mrbrainwash34

Cast Logan Lerman! He's the best. Yelchin and Bell suck ass!

Johnson does not deserve it. He's already got Kick Ass. He doesn't need to be another superhero.
