After everything that 2016 has brought us, it's nice to have a reason to focus on the future, and in this case, the rather distant future. When it comes to movie release dates that are several years out, plenty can change. But for now, Sony is making some tweaks to its 2018 and 2019 release schedule. Even though Spider-Man: Homecoming hasn't premiered yet (we only just saw the trailer yesterday), the studio is piggybacking off of the fervor from the first trailer and scheduling out its sequel.

According to Deadline, Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (as it is currently known) is set to debut July 5, 2019. What's significant about that is Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's Bad Boys 4 was also set to open that weekend (on July 3rd). But instead of pushing Bad Boys, Sony is pulling it back to the second most patriotic weekend, Memorial Day 2019 (more specifically, May 24th). But it's pretty ambitious (and unlikely) to presume the movie will make that date.

Bad Boys 4 will, at this point, be going up against Warner Bros' Minecraft, which feels like it will be playing to two very different audiences, while the Spider-Man sequel is largely in the clear over Independence Day weekend. As for those that are coming before: Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently slated for July 3, 2017, while and Bad Boys 3 is on for January 28, 2018. Both are a long way off.

Also of note, according to Exhibitor Relations, Sony is pushing the Barbie live-action movie from May 12, 2017 to June 29, 2018. That's quite a jump, but it was a long time coming, given that the movie just recently started talks to find a star and a director.
