‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Recruits Logan Marshall-Green and Martin Starr

     June 16, 2016

Sony and Marvel Studio’s Spider-Man: Homecoming is casting up fast! The Jon Watts (Cop Car) helmed franchise reboot is set to head into filming later this month, and the production is filling up with a roster of exciting talent. Earlier this week we learned that Donald Glover, one-time fan-championed contender for the title hero, signed on in a mystery role, and today brings the news of two new additions: The Invitation and Prometheus star Logan Marshall-Green and Silicon Valley standout Martin Starr.

Both actors are coming on in mystery roles, though THR reports that Marshall-Green will be taking on a villainous role as a secondary antagonist who causes a ruckus alongside Michael Keaton‘s The Vulture. It’s an exciting opportunity for the actor, who demonstrated tremendous magnetism and talent in Karyn Kusama‘s outstanding thriller The Invitation. As the film’s barely hinged protagonist, Marshall-Green walked a fine line between sympathetic and menacing, a quality he could amp up to the extreme for a little comic book villainy. Plus, if you squint hard enough, you’ll see Tom Hardy fighting Spider-Man, and that seems like a good fight. Deadline brings the news of Starr’s addition, but has no details on his character.

The pair joins the already announced cast, which will see Tom Holland return as Peter Parker after making a wildly well-received debut in Captain America: Civil War. Also returning are Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. as….well, you know who he is (it’s Tony Stark, if you somehow don’t), alongside newcomers Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) as Manuel and Zendaya as the female lead named Michelle, and Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) and Michael Barbieri in unspecified roles.

Spider-Man: Homecoming arrives in theaters July 7, 2017.
