With Andrew Garfield locked to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot, the search continues to find the web-slinger’s love-interest. However, unlike Raimi’s trilogy, the love interest won’t be Mary Jane. While presumably that means the love interest is Gwen Stacy, Heat Vision reports that script pages given to actresses reading for the role don’t reveal the character’s name.
Among those actresses are (from left-to-right in the image above) Imogen Poots (Solitary Man), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy), Lily Collins (The Blind Side), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), and Emma Roberts (Valentine’s Day). HV makes clear “These are not screentests, which usually involve some sort of dealmaking, but rather readings and meetings,” and that another round of searching could take place if these actresses don’t work out. Hit the jump for more on the project. The Spider-Man reboot is set to open in 3D on July 3, 2012.
We already know that Sony and Webb are going for a “more gritty, contemporary redo of the series”. The budget is also rumored to be in the $80 million range (the original 2002 film reportedly cost $139 million). Finally, while we don’t know who the villain is (although it’s rumored to be The Lizard), we know that Sony looked at Inglourious Basterds‘ Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender for the role. Heat Vision says that the film will be set in high school, although it’s been reported that the setting would be moved to college due to Garfrield’s age (he’ll be 27 tomorrow). It’s worth noting that the ages of the actresses mentioned above range from 19 to 24. Of course, actors playing beneath their age is a time-honored tradition. The question is how far beneath their age can they go with the audience still buying it.
Production is set to begin in December and I really hope that the casting process for the female lead isn’t as drawn out and excruciating as the one for Peter Parker.

So it sounds like it will be Gwen in the next one. As long as Green Goblin isn't in it I'll be happy. It's not that I don't like GG (he's tattooed on my arm), it's just the movie wouldn't be a reboot it would be a remake with a depressing ending.
They should just have Spidey go through all these girls in the movie.
Then it will be instantly appealing and fans will shut up.

Make the first one about Betty then move on to Gwen and if the first ones are any good move one to MJ (and of course smuggle in a bit of Felicity Hardy somewhere in-between *_* )
Don't forget the gap between Dunst and Tobey was just as big as any of the above ones.

The character of Spider-Man isn't a dark and gritty himself, but his storyline in the and atmosphere in the comic IS very dark and gritty. Just open up a comic book and take a look. His uncle was murdered because he didn't take responsibility for his own actions, his girlfriend was killed, and his best friend developed a drug addiction, and let’s not forgets the murderous psychopaths that have gone after him! A reboot is just friggin stupid! Why the hell reboot? Its not like Spiderman came out a long time ago. 2002 is only 8 years ago. There is no way this new film will ever even touch the sales the first three made. I would have rather them made part 4. I'm just pissed they are already doing a reboot. No more origionality I guess. Lets just go remake every great movie out there. Lets reboot Jurassic Park while we are at it, or just reboot Terminator…. seriously pissed!

The reboot's happening, you can ether sit at the side of your bed cry (just like Raimi's Peter Parker) about what would have been Spider-baby and the Vultress or get over it and just leave the comic book fans who are hoping Soney can get it right this time.
Technically it's not the Goblin, but the Goblin-in-the-box that was in the 30th anniversary issue of Spectacular.

that's a dark story, sure. but not 'gritty'. gritty is over saturation of blacks and browns, helping you see the pores in the actor's skin usually. acompanied by a lot of shaky cam, with dirt under everyone's fingernails and usually more hard-edged dialogue.
basicaly transformers and terminator salvation. dark spiderman? sounds reasonable. gritty spiderman? kind of gucks up all the lovability and comedy that i would hope to see in a spiderman film.
How much would Spider-man 4 have cost to make? $150 -250+ Million. If you were a studio boss would you spend $280m or $80 with similar projected Box Office totals?

This sucks! Dont put a new love interest Mjs the perfect one for him. They should have freakin made the 4th movie, because the 3rd one ruined it all. This reboot is gonna suck big time.
The fourth movie was going to suck anyway. After all take a look at what was confirmed. Peter and MJ having a kid, the Vulture and the Vultress coming into the picture, and Peter questioning his marriage to MJ.
Furthermore, the title is a little misleading. MJ is going to be a part of the reboot, she just isn't going to be the love interest. Which is ok, because she didn't come into the comics till much later on anyway. Gwen was always his first love interest until she was killed.

all 3 spiderman films have made close to 3 billion dollars worldwide so whats the logic of making an 80 million dollar reboot if raimis films were not according to comic book fans who watched them? they are blockbusters, basically studios knew spidey 4 would cost them big in production so rather make a small budgeted advertise it as gritty, dark & rake in mullah.

Yeah, I guess the Raimi movies weren’t gritty enough. Uncle Ben was still murdered the Green Goblin was effectively disemboweled and Harry was killed. What is grittier? Making Peter a meth-head? By the way, I’m tired of the Nolan Batman movies, let’s reboot them and Iron Man too. Let’s go one step further and reboot movies before they even come out! I don’t like the Thor and Green Lantern movies which I haven’t even seen yet. Reboot ‘em!

Go read the comics and then watch a little cartoon series called “The Spectacular Spider-Man”. After you have done that, compare the comics and the cartoon to the first three movies. If you still don’t understand what was wrong with the Raimi films, then you’re a lost cause!

I’m kind of having this silly hope that the girl in this movie will be Black Cat – I miss Felicia Harding. Easily one of the best female characters ever created.
Plus, most of the actresses up there are blond and well, Felicia’s blond too! That said, Gwen is blond also so that kind of dashes my hopes. -_-

Don’t worry, if the Black Cat isn’t in the first movie there is always a high chance that she could appear later on in any following installments. Besides, in the original comics, the Black Cat was never really a love interest for Spider-Man. She was always more of a tease.
I may be in the minority, but I really didn’t like the most recent Spiderman movies. When I read the comics it was for the sarcastic web slinger who used his wit as much as his agility and strength. He may not have started off that way, but he’s been there for as long back as I can remember. Toby Maguire just never sold me on the character, and he never seemed to develop into the Spiderman I collected and read for years. I’m all for the reboot, and I hope they do one of my favorite characters from the Marvel universe right this time.
Ok, here’s the deal. The Spider-man re-boot is gonna happen. All you purists and uber-fans out there who talk all the “it’s going to be right this time” trash are going to hate it. And Sony going to start pumping out more sequels because you’re all going to cling to the hope that each one will “get it right.” Just like Wolverine, right? DC might have their shit sorted out, but Marvel is floundering with what to do next.
What can I say? Some people would rather be positive then act like an idiot who is whining about a movie they haven’t even seen yet.
BTW, DC has their shit sorted out? Batman 3 hasn’t even received the green light yet! Speaking about movies getting the green light how’s the progress on the Wonder Woman movie coming along?
