After heavy speculation, it's looking like The Lizard will be the villain in Marc Webb's upcoming Spider-Man reboot.  As we previously reported, Rhys Ifans is playing the villain in the film, which stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spidey and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.  In an interesting side-note, TheWrap is also reporting that, contrary to an earlier rumor, Venom is not going to be in the movie.  So I can at least feel a sigh of relief due to that character's omission.

For those who don't know, The Lizard's alter-ego is mild-manner Dr. Curt Connors.  Connors accidentally became The Lizard during an experiment in which he attempted to re-grow his amputated arm.  Connors was played in Spider-Man 2 and 3 by Dylan Baker.  Hit the jump for a brief recap on what else we currently know about Webb's reboot thus far along with a brief bio on The Lizard.  The untitled Spider-Man reboot is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Unsurprisingly, details on the upcoming reboot are being kept under tight wraps.  However, the budget is rumored to be around $80 million.  The film will also reportedly be set in high school and be "gritty" and "contemporary".

Here's an excerpt from Marvel's bio for The Lizard:

Curt Connors was a gifted surgeon who went into a war to help his country. He performed "meatball" surgery on wounded GIs, but his arm was injured in a blast and had to be amputated. He eventually became obsessed with uncovering the secrets of reptilian regeneration, and studied reptilian biology extensively. From his home in the Everglades, he finally determined a serum taken from the DNA of a reptile. He had successfully regrown the missing limb of a rabbit, and, despite the warnings of his wife, chose to test it on himself. Connors ingested it, and his arm did indeed grow back. Unfortunately, it had one side effect: Connors was subsequently transformed into a reptilian monster!
