Emma Stone Confirms That New SPIDER-MAN Costume Has Mechanical Web-Shooters

Last week, Sony released the first official image of Andrew Garfield in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot and sharp-eyed readers noticed gold-discs attached to the wrists of the costume.  Were these web-shooters?  Had the new film traded the organic web-shooters of Raimi’s films for mechanical ones?  MTV caught up with Emma Stone–who plays Peter Parker’s love interest, Gwen Stacy–on the red carpet of the Golden Globes last night and asked her for some clarification.  Stone told MTV, “It’s a device.”

Hit the jump for a close-up of the web-shooters.  Marc Webb’s 3D Spider-Man reboot is due to hit theaters on July 3, 2012.

Here’s a close-up of the web-shooters from the new movie:

And here’s what they look like in the comics (when they’re not covered up by Spidey’s gloves, obviously):

  1. wow.. so they opted for the comic book version instead of following up Tobey Maguire’s version of having organic webbing instead.
    Interesting.

  2. I’m actually more excited for this reboot than I was for any of Raimi’s films. While the previous Spider-Films did several things right, I was never able to look past Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. He was a decent enough Peter Parker, but he always seemed to lack the sarcastic attitude and confidence the character should have while in-costume.

It does sadden me though that J.K. Simmons won’t be returning as Jameson. The man was born for the role.

  3. Awesome. this is the way it should. Realistic is the way to go, makes for less forced drama.

I’m not a big fan of the original Spiderman trilogy. It was entertaining enough (1 and 2 only, 3 was complete shit) but I didn’t feel that the special effects or tone was right. Especially Peters home life with that irritatingly super cheesy Aunt May.
