Before you check out the purportedly untold story of The Amazing Spider-Man, Sony wants to give you an opportunity to revisit the told story… on Blu-ray!  The studio will re-release Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy on Blu-ray June 12, just prior to the July 2 release date of the Amazing reboot.  According to Heat Vision, the new set won’t add too much to the previously released Blu-rays for Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3.  But there is the promise of “collectable O-Ring packaging” and a code for a free ticket to The Amazing Spider-Man.  At the very least, the known quality of the trilogy (two-thirds of it, anyway) will serve as a good hedge in case the reboot is only as good as most reboots are.  To get you in the mood, I embedded the Tobey Maguire-narrated trailer for the first movie after the jump.

Unless they digital remove all those Spiderman tears I’m not buying it.

  • THE AMAZING SPIDER-HIPSTER

Wont buy this shit, dont waste your money on these so called “SPIDER-MAN” Film.

The previous three films were TERIBLE! They were horribly written, horribly acted, and inaccurate to the comics. Name one thing those god-awful films did right. The reboot is far superior, more accurate, and has a much better actor playing Spider-man.

Tobey Maguire was the worst Spider-man of all time, he had literally none of the personal traits that make up Spider-man as a character. That’s like saying George Clooney made a great Batman. Spider-man is supposed to be a witty, wise-ass, scientific genius…… Maguire was a depressed, humor-less, dumb-ass who couldn’t invent anything. Maguire will go down in history as the worst actor to ever play Spiderman.

Oh, so I take it you’ve seen the movie? I didn’t know they were screening it yet.

Wait– Sony HASN’T screened it yet? So, you’re just a moronic mouth- breather who didn’t like some of the best super-hero movies of all time that grossed a billion dollars at the BO?

Move along. You are the very definition of sad.

      • Chaster

OMG! He has actual legitimate reasons to dislike something! Truly this man is the definition of sad!

        Chaster–

The Amazing Hipster said “The reboot is far superior, more accurate, and has a much better actor playing Spider-man.”

A pretty ridiculous statement to make when the movie hasn’t been released or even SCREENED.

It sounds like he just wanted to rail on the original trilogy, which is fine– but don’t frontload your critique with an absurd statement, or people with a brain in their head will call you on it.

      • Chaster

Alright, I will agree with you on one thing… that it is a way too soon to be saying that “the reboot is far superior” when it hasn’t even been screened yet. Then in that case isn’t way too soon to be saying that the “Raimi films are better?”

Now on to SPIDER-HIPSTER’s other two points, both of which I find perfectly valid. Andrew Garfield IS a better actor then Tobey McGuire, just go watch The Social Network, Never Let me Go, and Boy A if you don’t believe me. Oh hell the only really good performance I have ever seen from McGuire was in Brothers.

Also, this movie will be at least be a little bit more comic book accurate then the Raimi films. We got a witty Spider-man, mechanical web shooters, and Gwen Stacy as the first love interest (plus she will actually be intelligent this time!)

      • Becca

I totatlly burst out laughing at the “she will actually be intelligent this time” So true.

  • Ray

I rewatched these movies a few days ago, and they have not aged well. The acting is over dramatic, the dialogue is odd, the romantic subplot feels forced, and over all, they’re not very fun. The only thing worth it is J.K Simmon’s performance.

    • Lame Duck

I disagree..I think the films aged well. Will the real spidey please stand up?!

  • ozzie

JK Simmons and Alrfred Molina were the only good things out of those 3 awefull movies … the real spiderman will be on our big screens soon.

Romantic dialog was bad (not star wars bad … but still bad). I am not faulting Tobey or Kirsten … they had crap scripts to work with.

They lost me after the Power Ranger Goblin … they cast the best actor then fucked it up with the costume.

    • THE AMAZING SPIDER-HIPSTER

Couldn’t agree more, Goblin and Venom were horribly done. My gawd since when does Goblin wear plastic armor, Venom being 5ft, smaller than Tobey Maguire and more annoying? PPFFFTTTT.

It saddens me that some people still think this is the real spider-man, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN will rape this series. 100% sure.

    • Joe

Ah my friend…i think you forgot the 3rd thing which stood out well.
Kirsten Dunst’s titties in the pouring rain.

      • Professor_Zoom

There have been way better on screen.

  • Jake

These movies are awesome and Spider-man 2 is easily one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, everyone on the comments is a f_cking idiot.

    • sense 11

its like a superhero lifetime movie.

  • Yahzee

What a bunch of trendy morons here. I remember when the unnecessary reboot was announced and the whole internet cried “NO”, and now all of a sudden, you all are on the reboot wagon. It is one thing to have grown towards the upcoming film, another entirely, disregard the films that were so widely acclaimed by critics, and you, the online community… yo guys disgust me…

    • Tarek

don’t be upset. those guys are Spin doctors paid by Sony to change our minds.

It will be hard for them to make me change my mind…^^

      • ozzie

Apparently my Sony check got lost in the mail … Raimi Spiderman was bad then and is bad now.

Peter Parker has depth in the upcoming movie series as where he had none in Spiderman 1-3. He was only defined by his love for MJ and his bromance with Harry both of whom had more depth than Peter on screen.

The other movies didn’t go into who Peter Parker was. I just like that the new film is diving into that … not to mention Andrew Garfield is a spectacular actor. I like the fact that they made Peter’s disconnect with the people around him a foreground part of the story. A ton of young people can relate to that in today’s messes up world.

All the people hating are going to be surprised when they see this film. It’s truly a much better movie rendering of Spiderman at least on paper. I am worried that the 3D will mess up my movie experience so I will try to see it in 2D first.

    • Underground Anthem TX

ozzie– Well, Sony appears to have you bought and sold on this one without even seeing the movie.

“Peter Parker has depth in the upcoming movie series as where he had none in Spiderman 1-3.”

Really? I thought he was actually a pretty complex character. A science nerd who had no friends except a rich kid, a parent-less upbringing that was surely relatable to a lot of viewers, a passion for photography, a struggling existence of barely scraping by even though he has incredible powers, etc.

The Peter Parker character isn’t defined “by the people around him”, he’s defined by the simple phrase of “with great power comes great responsibility.”

As much as the haters seem to be burying this movie before it’s release, on the flip-side we have the hipsters annointing a movie NO ONE has seen yet. If the movie is good, then that’s a win for EVERYBODY. If it sucks, EVERYONE loses. But I don’t see the need to torch the original trilogy in the process.

      Sheesh…
