First the stars of The Simpsons are having a hard time with Fox about a huge paycut that might halt production on the series next spring, but now it looks like cable is having a similar battle. Deadline has word that Showtime has reached in impasse in negotiations with Michael C. Hall for his new contract for Dexter following the conclusion of his current deal which ends with the sixth season (read my review of last weekend’s premiere right here). Apparently Showtime has offered Hall $20 mllion for two more seasons while the actor’s representatives are looking to close a $24 million deal instead. That’s not to say that Hall doesn’t deserve the payment for turning in a spectacular performance every single season, but apparently either salary would make him one of the highest paid actors in cable. Right now the two sides can’t reach an agreement, and there’s a chance a deal might be struck for one season instead of two, but that doesn’t seem like the best option for fans who just want more. But the question remains how long Dexter can have the strong legs the series has maintained thus far. Perhaps one more season would be best for our dark passenger.
Just pay the guy!!! (Though that is a LOT of cash!) This is the best TV show on Telly! I dont wanna see it fizzle to nothing like LOST, Prison Break, V, Etc etc etc…
At least write a Movie with a proper grand finali! Dexter needs to go out with style. Then I will BUY the whole lot. But if it goes out with a dud then no cash for you hollywood, and I will vow to never bother with another big bucks TV show again. How studios can have the nerve to cancel a show mid way through after so many fans fork out bucks for each series is disgusting. look at Heroes!!!
It’s pretty unbelievable that actors demand so much money. Yes, I understand that their shows/movies bring in a lot of money for the studios and production companies, but do they really think they deserve millions and millions on top of millions of dollars while people who perform immensely far more important jobs make a small fraction of that? The same goes for athletes.. Doctors, nurses, and all other people who save/change lives deserve more money than any single actor or athlete. Period. It simply baffles me. I guess that’s the entertainment business for you, though.
If the studios weren’t raking in hundreds of millions or even billions when all is said and done then this wouldn’t be an issue. You don’t hear about the huge money the guys behind the scenes make due to the great performances of many actors. Those guys are mostly untalented former studio lawyers who usually end up ruining your favorite shows with crap like this.
Obviously people who save lives have far more important jobs than the people in the entertainment industry. But who pays for goodwill or moral actions? Its just the market economy, the more money you bring in is the more you make. Nothing wrong with that, just how things work.
I mean its not like if Hall gives up those extra 4 million, the studio is gonna donate it to charity. He wants what he’s earned.
