Do you love stories about small-town girls with big dreams who find their calling in the tasteful confines of a burlesque club? Well, you can finally retire that V.I.P. DVD edition of “Showgirls” because I’ve got something that (on paper) is far better. And it stars people who can act. Well, it stars Stanley Tucci. Hit the jump to find out more.
Christina Aguilera is set to star as the aforementioned small-town girl in the new musical “Burlesque.” The Steve Antin-directed project will also feature the esteemed Stanley Tucci as the manager of the Sunset Boulevard club and Cher as a former dancer who becomes a mentor to Aguilera’s character.
Antin has long been familiar with the burlesque world having been the co-developer and executive producer of the Pussycat Dolls reality show “Girlicious.” Aguilera is also no stranger to burlesque. In fact, before the Pussycat Dolls resembled the winners of P. Diddy’s “Making the Band” they depended on stars like Aguilera to guest star in their productions in order to get recognized. As for Cher, let’s just say she knows her way around a strategically placed outfit. Like I said before, the acting falls to Tucci. More on this film as details become available.
