A new photo from the set of Star Trek 2 has leaked online.  For those currently trying to avoid spoilers (in vain), I won’t show any of the photo before the jump, but believe me when I say it’s unintentionally hilarious.

Hit the jump to check out the new set photo, click here to see video from the set, and click here for other set photos.  The film stars The film stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Star Trek 2 opens May 17, 2013.

According to MTV [photo by Eric Ford/On Location News], the reason Spock (Quinto) is wearing a goofy suit is because the stunt involves the character going into a volcano.  Here’s a description of what was happening on set:

After first rehearsing the scene with a Spock’s stunt double actor, Zachary Quinto was then rigged to a wire in front of a large green screen and lifted to a height of 10 stories high then dropped at a high rate of speed as if he was falling. In the scene Spock is wearing a “Volcano Suit” and carrying an unknown piece of equipment with the Starfleet emblem. A volcano is somehow involved in this scene. The crew had a real fire burning off camera to catch the fire reflections on Spock’s “Volcano Suit”.

I’m glad the scene involves a volcano because otherwise Spock would just look silly wearing his Volcano Suit.  Volcano Suit Spock is going to make a great action figure.

  1. Yup, that picture of Spock in a red space suit dangling on wires in front of a green screen really ruined the whole movie for me.

    • Ya, except it’ll look amazing after post production. You don’t even know the story yet, and it’s been ruined for u. Hard to see u ever succeed in life.

      • hard to see how you succeed at life with your inability to recognize even the most basic sarcasm

  2. Fans of the original series will recognize that the “Volcano Suit” (or should that be “Vulcano Suit”?) design is an homage to both the excursion suits intoruced in the third season episode, “The Tholian Web” and the environmental suits first seen in the first season episode, “The Naked Time.”

  3. Ugh this is seriously no bueno because it was a crew member. Wouldn’t be surprised if we’re asked to turn in our phones when this gets around set. Security is TIGHT around here from the photos of Benedict leaking.

  4. The pic of spock dangling is obviously a tribute to the opening sequence of theLost In Space tv show…..Ha!

  5. The “volcano suit” story could be a feint.
It could be that Spock is suited up to “boldy go” out to attempt a mind-meld with V-Ger!
