Three years after Star Trek Into Darkness hit theaters, Star Trek Beyond has finally arrived, with Justin Lin replacing J.J. Abrams behind the camera. For those who watched Lin's work on True Detective Season 2 probably are not exactly jumping for the chance to see what he's got next but it must be said that Lin shows some real chops in Star Trek Beyond, which is easily his best film since his debut, Better Luck Tomorrow.

The film brings back Chris Pine as Captain James Tiberius Kirk, the leader of the crew of the Enterprise, one of the main ships used by Star Fleet in their exploration of the vast unknowns of space. He's again backed-up by Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho), and Chekhov, played by the late Anton Yelchin in one of his last performances. This time, rather than facing off with one of the franchise's most well known villains in Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch), they face off with a vicious, violent alien leader named Krall (Idris Elba, in a lot of make-up), whose wanting to destroy the Enterprise has yet to be explained, thankfully.

The reviews for the film have been positive thus far, with our own Matt Goldberg saying that the film gives the rebooted franchise its first dose of real personality rather than retreading what the past films and tv series have done. But we'd like to hear what you dedicated fans of the franchise think of Lin's movie. Did he get the tone right? Is it the best of the new Star Treks? Is It the worst? Sound off in the comments section and let us know where you land with Star Trek Beyond.

Here's the official synopsis of Star Trek Beyond:

"Star Trek Beyond," the highly-anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin ("The Fast and the Furious" franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In "Beyond," the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
