Fresh on the heels of the announcement that Star Trek 4 is officially in the works (with Chris Hemsworth, aka Papa Kirk, set to return), Paramount has released one last trailer for Star Trek Beyond before it lands in theaters this week. In the latest film, the Enterprise is a few years into its five-year mission when a mysterious force attacks and the crew must survive on an unknown planet filled with its own conflict. The film screened for critics a couple weeks ago and buzz has been almost universally strong, with "fun" being the common theme and high marks for abandoning the reboot franchise's baffling earth-bound tendencies.
For Star Trek Beyond, Fast and Furious director Justin Lin takes the helm on a script by Simon Pegg. The film stars the returning crew Chris Pine, Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Karl Urban, alongside newcomers Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella and lands in theaters July 22nd. Check out the final trailer below.
Here’s the official synopsis for Star Trek Beyond:
“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
