With Comic-Con set to begin tomorrow, we’re about to be inundated with a crazy amount of new posters, images, and information about upcoming TV shows and movies.  Like years past, a number of Collider writers are heading to San Diego to help cover the convention.  We’re going to be offering panel recaps, interviews with some of the biggest names at Comic-Con, and tons of pictures from the convention floor including our yearly cosplay picture article.  The next few days are going to be crazy, so I hope you keep checking back for our coverage.

While walking around the past hour in San Diego, I snapped pictures of a number of posters on display outside the hotels and inside the convention center.  Hit the jump for pics of Goosebumps, Pixels, The Interview, The Walking Dead, Legends, Fury, The Blacklist, Vikings, and more.  Keep in mind, things are still being set up, so this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what’s outside the convention.

INTO THE STORM Clip Shows Sarah Wayne Callies and Richard Armitage Getting Too Close to an Incoming Tornado

We’ve come a long way since Twister’s flying cows.  We’ve already seen loads of destruction in the first two trailers for Steven Quale’s Into the Storm and also read quite a bit about it in Dave’s set visit reports, but now it’s time to get a sense of what just a single one of these tornados is capable of in the very first clip from the film.

When the town of Silverton is ravaged by a freak onslaught of twisters, Sarah Wayne Callies’ Allison, a meteorologist working alongside a team of storm chasers, is pretty much asking to have an up close and personal encounter with a vicious cyclone and, sure enough, she winds up getting closer than anyone.  Hit the jump to see what happens in the first Into the Storm clip.  The film will arrive in theaters on August 8th in 2D and IMAX, and also stars Richard Armitage, Matt Walsh, Alycia Debnam-CareyArlen Escarpeta, Max Deacon, Nathan Kress, Jeremy Sumpter, Kyle DavisJon Reep, and Scott Lawrence.

First CHAPPIE Poster Revealed at Comic-Con; See the Robot from Neill Blomkamp’s Provocative Sci-Fi Comedy

chappie-movie-poster-slice

Very little is known about District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp’s new film Chappie besides the fact that it revolves around a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters, and producer Simon Kinberg called it “the most provocative studio movie you’ll likely ever see.”  Well it looks like Sony Pictures is ready to unveil this curious pic to the public, as the first look at the titular robot (played by Sharlto Copley) has been unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con by way of a Chappie poster banner.  The film certainly looks to have a more darkly comedic tone than Blomkamp’s previous two features, and I’m really looking forward to seeing this thing in action in the near future.  Moreover, the prospect of seeing Hugh Jackman stretch his comedy talents in an offbeat sci-fi comedy is highly enticing.

Hit the jump to check out the Chappie poster, which Steve snapped a picture of inside the SDCC convention center lobby.  The film also stars Sigourney Weaver, and Die Antwoord frontpeople Ninja and Yolandi VisserChappie opens in theaters on March 27, 2015.

HONEYMOON Trailer Turns Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway’s Post-Wedding Getaway into a Nightmare

Have you seen Rose Leslie in Game of Thrones?  Have you seen Harry Treadaway in Penny Dreadful?  Then you’ve got an idea of what to expect from Leigh Janiak’s first feature film, Honeymoon.  Sure, there’s some eerie imagery, but what makes Honeymoon a standout is Janiak’s deft approach to unraveling this mystery paired with Leslie and Treadaway’s impassioned performances.

If that’s not enough to sell you on seeing Honeymoon when it hits theaters on September 12th, the film’s brand new trailer should get the job done.  Again, it’s not about freaking you out with jump scares or grotesque visuals, but rather about building an unnerving tone, letting you get to know the characters and then having you watch as their loving relationship completely unravels.  Hit the jump to check out the Honeymoon trailer for yourself.

Today’s TIFF announcement marked the arrival of a new film from director Susanne Bier (Love Is All You Need), the thriller A Second Chance.  And now a trailer has hit online.  This movie looks really good at first glance, very tense and dour (and a little bit like a twist on some of the themes of Gone Baby Gone).

The film was written by frequent Bier collaborator Anders Thomas Jensen and stars Jamie Lannister himself,  Nikolaj Coster-WaldauUlrich Thomsen, Maria Bonnevie, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Lykke May Andersen also appear.  Hit the jump to check out the A Second Chance trailer along with a few debut images.

First INSIDIOUS 3 Image Reveals the Film Is a Prequel

insidious-3-image

Focus Features has released the first Insidious 3 image, which reveals that the horror pic is actually a prequel to the low-budget franchise.  Insidious and Insidious Chapter 2 screenwriter Leigh Whannell takes over directing duties this time around from James Wan, as the story revolves around a teenage girl and her family, revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm of The Further.  The cast is led by Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott, with Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Whannell himself reprising their roles from the previous two movies.  Additionally, Focus is launching a sweepstakes for fans to win a visit to the set, which you can enter by visiting the official Facebook or Twitter pages.

I have yet to see a single Insidious movie so I don’t have much of a reaction to this image or prequel news, but what say you Insidious fans?  Are you pleased by this development?  Check out the first Insidious 3 image after the jump and sound off in the comments.  Insidious: Chapter 3 opens in theaters on May 29, 2015.

SPACE STATION 76 Trailer Shows Patrick Wilson, Matt Bomber and Liv Tyler Living in Deep Space 70s-Style

We’ve got an abundance of films set in a futuristic version of space, but what if space travel and deep space living more closely resembled the 70s instead?  That’s exactly what Jack Plotnick’s feature directorial debut is all about.  Rather than run with a single primary narrative, Space Station 76 puts the focus on a number of main characters going about their daily lives on a refueling station called the Omega 76.

There’s the bitter captain, Glenn (Patrick Wilson), his new assistant captain, Jessica (Liv Tyler), the space station mechanic, Ted (Matt Bomer), and his wife Misty (Marisa Coughlan) who struts around without a care in the world, often neglecting her own daughter.  You can catch them all in action in the very first Space Station 76 trailer after the jump.

PIXELS Logo Unveiled; Film Will Include Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Space Invaders, and More

Unless it’s a drama (of which he has two on the horizon), it’s hard to get excited about an Adam Sandler movie these days.  That said, this might change with Sony’s upcoming action comedy Pixels.  Directed by Chris Columbus and based on the short film of the same name, the story revolves around a few 80s arcade game champions who are called upon to help defend earth from alien invaders who have misinterpreted our classic arcade games as a declaration of war.  Sandler stars alongside Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Brian Cox, and Kevin James as the President of the United States (I know), but today Sony has unveiled the official Pixels logo and revealed which recognizable video game characters will be popping up in the film.  It’s a hodge-podge of great game icons, from Pac-Man to Donkey Kong to Q*bert, and I’m really curious to see how they’ll be realized in the large-scale action-adventure film.

Hit the jump to check out the official Pixels logo, a high-resolution version of the previously released image, and the full press release and synopsis from Sony.  Pixels opens in theaters on May 15, 2015.

BABY DRIVER Will Be the Next Edgar Wright Film

by     Posted 2 hours ago

edgar-wright-baby-driver

Every cloud has a silver lining.  When Edgar Wright left Ant-Man back in May, a lot of people were understandably disappointed (Wright himself probably chief among them).  But here’s the thing, what that really means is that we’re getting more movies that are his vision top-to-bottom.  More “Edgar Wright Movies.”  For eight years it looked like Ant-Man could actually fit in that category, but forces at either Marvel or Disney began to push back.  Personally, I’m glad Wright didn’t waste another 18 months working on something that might have felt diluted by executive notes.

Wright fans now find themselves in a happy scenario where they’re getting a new movie from him sooner rather than later.  It’s called Baby Driver.  You may even remember this title being bandied about 6 years ago when he signed a two picture deal with Working Title Films following Hot Fuzz (the first film under that deal ended up being The World’s End).  Back then the film was described as “a wild spin on the action and crime genre which will be set in the U.S.” And now it’s apparently happening.  Hit the jump for more on Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Recruits Lucy Lawless; AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. and AGENT CARTER Crossover Comic-Con Poster Revealed

Marvel’s
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
had a tough time at first.  It didn’t get the best critical reception and saw its ratings slip as the season progressed.  Having lost interest after the fourth episode, clearly I can’t comment, but our own Evan Valentine pointed out that things did improve after a certain big twist.  Perhaps I’ll have to take his word for it because not only did Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. score a second season, but it also just added Xena star Lucy Lawless to the cast.

Since playing Xena, Lawless has been all over the place on the TV side of the business having appeared on Battlestar Galactica, Spartacus, Parks and Recreation and more.  Hit the jump for more on Lawless’ casting as well as the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Marvel’s Agent Carter San Diego Comic-Con crossover poster.  Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9/8c and Agent Carter will premiere in January 2015.

Casey Wilson and Kristen Schaal Talk THE HOTWIVES OF ORLANDO, Shooting 7 Episodes in 7 Days, Reality TV, GONE GIRL, and More

The Hulu original series The Hotwives of Orlando is a hilarious and raunchy parody of one of the most popular franchises in reality television.  It takes you inside the uber-exclusive and glamorous world of six hot housewives in the sexy city of Orlando, as they fight over pretty much everything, except for their love of shoes, plastic surgery and spending all of their husbands’ money.  The seven-episode series stars Casey Wilson, Kristen Schaal, Angela Kinsey, Tymberlee Hill, Andrea Savage, and show creators Dannah Phirman and Danielle Schneider.

During the Hulu portion of the TCA Press Tour, co-stars Casey Wilson (who plays self-obsessed trophy wife, Tawny St. John) and Kristen Schaal (who plays former child star Amanda Simmons) spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how this show came about, why they wanted to get involved, shooting all seven episodes in seven days, what they think of reality television, and that they could get as outrageous as they wanted.  Casey Wilson also talked about the stark contrast of doing numerous takes for her role in director David Fincher’s upcoming film, Gone Girl (in theaters on October 3rd).  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

New HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS Trailer Shifts Simon Pegg From Comedy to Drama

A new Hector and the Search for Happiness trailer has gone online.  Based on the book of the same name by François Lelord, the film stars Simon Pegg as the titular Hector, an eccentric psychiatrist who’s going nowhere and whose patients aren’t getting any happier.  One day, he musters up the courage to set out on a quest to find out if happiness really exists.  I had actually never seen any of this film’s trailers before today, so I went and revisited the first and second trailers as well.  And I think I prefer this brand new one the most.  It sells the character’s need to go on this journey a bit more.  Or maybe I’m just getting old and schmaltzy.  The comedic elements of the first two trailers are still present, but now I get the restlessness of the character’s life.

Hit the jump to check out the new Hector and the Search for Happiness trailer.  The film opens in the U.K. on August 15th and in the U.S. on September 19th.  Rosamund Pike, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Stellan Skarsgard, and Jean Reno also star.

Emma Stone and Colin Firth Talk MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT, Working with Woody Allen, Filming Without Rehearsal Time and More

On the one hand, you’ve got to feel pretty damn good when you’re cast in a Woody Allen film.  He’s an Academy Award winning director who continues to churn out films with outstanding performances year after year.  But, on the other hand, that’s a seriously high-pressure situation right there and Allen’s Magic in the Moonlight stars, Emma Stone and Colin Firth, certainly felt it.

While promoting the film’s July 25th limited release, Stone and Firth sat down with us to talk about hitting the set having done no rehearsals, shooting and re-shooting a certain scene only to have it completely cut from the film, adding Allen’s signature cadence to their own performances and much more.  You can check it all out after the jump.  Also, in case you missed it, click here for what Firth told us about his upcoming Donald Crowhurst movie.
