We are less than two months away from sitting in a movie theater and experiencing that familiar opening refrain: “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” Over the past year Disney has slowly released images and information on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. First came the teaser trailer on Thanksgiving Day of last year, with trickles of news and images between then and now. That culminated into the first full length trailer just over a week ago.  Even with all this information, what we truly know about the seventh film in the franchise is extremely limited. Heck, not even the man who started it all, George Lucas, knows what will happen. And don’t expect to learn, or see, much more between now and when it opens on December 18th, as director J.J. Abrams recently confirmed that there will be no new trailers.

However, that isn’t to say that there will be no new images. And sure enough, Disney has released a new batch of high resolution images. Granted, they don’t reveal anything we haven’t seen before, as they are taken from the newest trailer. But they sure look nice. Daniel Mindel is the cinematographer and has worked with Abrams on every one of his projects save for Super 8.

One interesting takeaway from the footage and stills we have seen so far is that there is obviously a return to a more lived-in, space-western style world with depth, as opposed to a CGI-fest like the prequels, which were overly-polished and flat-looking. Yet it can be argued that these images, while encouraging, may perhaps look somewhat glossed-over to an extent. That is by no means a critique, just an observation. Because how else could it look? Regardless, it without questions looks like an Abrams flick, and more importantly a Star Wars movie. And Abrams and Mindel are bringing a world to life. These new hi-res stills reaffirm their level of craft and our collective excitement.

Check out the images below, and be sure to save them since they’re perfect for digital wallpaper.
