The most unfortunate thing about this set is no mention of the option to view the theatrical version of the original trilogy. No theatrical cut, no money from me.
Same thing for me…
We want the goddamn theatrical cut !
The theatrical cut doesn’t have the restoration that the SE, etc do. It would be pointless to release on a high-def medium when the reel looks like it was dragged through mud. Just pick up the theatrical on DVD and take the Blu-Ray version for what it does have.
anon: They would not have restored the entire Crap Version and left ~15 minutes of original theatrical scenes on the cutting room floor. They DO have it, it’s just a question of when they’re willing to extort more money for it.
Either they provide a theatrical cut with this set of Blu-Ray, or they’ll wait till another release in order to make fans buy the set again.
Well, i;m not bothered too much about the theatrical cut (except a few scenes) some scenes have genually been improved.
I am however hoping/wishing and praying that GL has tinkered heavily with the prequels. I heard phantom menaces ugly puppet has been redone in cgi, which is a start. But, lots more tinkering could be done.
Dodgy dialogue, uncomfortable bad acting and jar jar/boss nass overdose, aswell as silly moments scar 3 decent films. If only GL took a note from many of the fan editors on the internet, they have all re edited/dubbed and tweaked the films to a much better mature level. Some have even gotten rid of jar jar completely.
please fix the prequels before releasing them again george! It CAN be done!
Original trilogy only for me. I’m not a fanboy so I don’t care that it’s the special editions.
Ridiculous that you can pre-order 9 months in advance. I know Simon Pegg (among others) would be critical, but really – I think film has moved on from Lucas and his heavily edited, abridged and generally rehashed saga. The first three (4-6) were great, yeah, now leave it alone. Star Wars is an outdated fad. Move on.
F* this! Who pre-orders something 9 months in advance???
I will own it, but no way am I putting in a pre-order this early. That’s plain crazy. Not to mention FOX notoriously locks their Blu-Rays to play only in the region of purchase, so I have to buy mine from Europe.
This press release is lame too because it doesn’t say A SINGLE THING about what’s on the disks, other than the films! I mean, 9 freaking disks for the full-shabang? There’s got to be loads of extras, right? Where’s the breakdown?
Holy shiz, I’m an idiot. (I hate this commenting system btw. I want to delete me last comment but it’s unforgiving and forcing me to remain a fool in front of the whole world!)
I see the very first paragraph goes into the special features a bit: “with three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.”
Sounds Awesome!!
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away (America late 70s) Star Wars was actually cool.
STAR WARS is still cool, but fast forward to now. The internet gave birth to idiots and haters that get off on spewing shit.
Sure the prequels coulda been better, but The clone wars is awesome, and so are most of the games etc.
Meh…give me the theatrical versions remastered in HD, or no money from me. I’ll just stick with the DVD sets since they look decent enough on my Blu-ray player.
As much as I wholehartedly prefer the theatrical versions, I’ll definitely still pick this up. I know people hate that Lucas only releases his updated versions, but that is exactly what they are: updated versions. It’s like people complaining about Windows 7, there’s things you don’t like about it, but it’s the newest version so you have to use it. I have the original versions in a few formats, and that’s enough for me.
Also, the only one of the movies that is almost ruined by the special edition changes is Return of the Jedi, but that’s always been the weakest original trilogy entry anyway. I have no problems fast forwarding through Jedi Rocks. The new trailer also shows some great color correction has gone on since the DVD release, Hoth is no longer blue, and Phantom doesn’t look as washed out and dull. Here’s hoping they get rid of that awful Yoda puppet in Phantom as well.
Theatrical version, George Lucas, you stubborn arrogant bastard!
My god the special editions are pure story rape! The man who fought against the colorization of black and white movies won’t release the REAL versions of his own movies.
And, his last four movies sucked. I guess success makes you lose sense of your priorities, eh George? What a dick.
9 discs and no original versions? really? How half-ass.
For everyone saying that the remastered versions aren’t a big deal, that’s fine if you want to spend you money on it. It doesn’t register as a half-complaint to Lucas. It registers as a purchase, period.
With DVDs, there aren’t many avenues for your voice to be heard. Not paying for something is one of them. I want the theatrical cuts. I don’t want the goofy and unnecessary addition of CGI in a film full of practical effects.
It isn’t uncommon to have the option of theatrical or director’s cut on the same disc, or added separately. Until I have the option, I will continue to speak with my wallet.
My husband will get them. he is such a Fanboy. Star wars is his heaven. I can careless to tell you the truth.
Nope, not worth it. I’m not supporting something that claims it’s the “original” with out the theatrical version. Everyone els can blow Lucas and be in denial, but my knees are going to be clean. Good luck with you’re high definition shit.
I have been surfing online more than three hours nowadays, but I never found any interesting article like yours. It is beautiful price sufficient for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the web will be a lot more helpful than ever before.
Thanks for any other magnificent post. The place else may just anybody get that type of info in such a perfect way of writing? I have a presentation subsequent week, and I’m on the look for such information.
