Despite fan complaints about George Lucas‘ alterations, the coming September 16 release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) on Blu-ray is a big deal for the world’s big franchise. One of the more alluring components of the package is never-before-seen deleted scenes. We saw one from The Empire Strikes Back yesterday; tonight, we have the full list of deleted scenes, including their running times. I can’t count myself among the hardcore, so I can’t speculate on the possible significance of “Bail Organa Alderaan,” “The Fate of General Veers,” or “Jerjerrod’s Conflict.” But you can! Please do so after the jump.

I’m a Star Wars geek, and I can tell you for sure that a lot of those are VERY long overdue. I reckon it would be worth buying the set for those alone.
Problem is though, when you geek out on something you buy anything connected with the subject regardless of its quality or usefulness. Scenes are often cut from films for a reason and inserting bloated set-pieces just to squeeze more money from collectors such as yourself is just cynical at best, especially as these films are tinkered with every 10 years or so and re-released in another format. I once heard that George Lucas apparently has enough money to the moon, I wish he’d fuck off and live there.
*enough money to buy the moon
Why does’nt Lucas just list the entire original trilogy as a deleted scene
That’s a good one, I’d buy it if he did… a nice, remastered deleted scene.
Whilst these deleted scenes are undeniably compelling, why couldn’t they have been on either the VHS or Laserdisc box sets released in the 1990′s, and why wasn’t ALL deleted scenes for each prequel episode included on their initial two-disc DVD releases?
In saying that, it’s going to be interesting to see what was cut from the movies, I’ll bet there’ll be some scenes that should never have been cut to begin with (‘the rebel raid on bunker’ being my choice), but we’ll see soon enough, but considering that Lucas hasn’t included restored presentations of the OT’s theatrical versions, plus the fact he hasn’t extensively re-edited the PT to make them tighter and, well, better, I’ll not be buying this- aside from the fact I don’t have a Blu Ray player!!!
Maybe he will convince me to buy it if he adds star Wars XXX as a bonus. ^^
I hate you Luca$.
The deleted scene I’m most interested in is not on the set. I remember when Return of The Jedi hit theatres, there was so much secrecy, all of the cast said they didn’t know how it ended because Lucas filmed 3 endings. I remember buying the Marvel Comic, which was on sale before the movie came out just to see which ending he chose. Of course, no one has ever mentioned the 3 endings since ROTJ first was in theatres and now, I have to wonder if they even exist. Mark Hamil would know of course because if there were 3 different endings, he would have had to film them since one of them was rumored as having him turn to the dark side. Also, this was during a time when Lucas said that Star Wars was a nine part saga: the three prequels, the original trilogy and three after.
I do know that the original script for ROTJ was quite a bit darker then what we got. First off it was Wookies, not Ewoks, Han dies by sacrificing himself to bring the shield generator down, Luke basically walks off on his own after his battle with Vader leaving Leia in charge of a shattered govt.
An adult script then…With a Kershner on board, it would have been a great final. Maybe better than ESB. But it’s not compatible with Luca$ merchandising strategy. Who’s gonna buy the action figures ^^
I think that original script was concieved when Lucas still had the idea of a nine-part saga in mind, so when he decided instead to cut it to six parts, he rewrote the ROTJ rough draft to have a new Death Star (actually two but dropped one), make Leia the “other one” mentioned in ESB, had Han survive the Endor battle, change Wookies to Ewoks, dropped the Imperial home world of Had Abbadon in the script and just replaced it with the aforementioned Death Star, and had the Emperor appear in the film instead of keeping him until Episode IX (which will never be made), mind you, if Luca$ had kept that original, darker story, ROTJ would’ve been the greatest conclusion in movie history, but Tarek is absolutely right, Luca$ was more concerned with toy sales… and Gary Kurtz even said so!
The two alternate endings you refer to were actually written in by Kasdan and changed at the last minute by George Lucas. As far as I know, one alternate ending that was scripted, filmed in it’s entirety and ultimately re-cut and expanded with minor re-shoots was the death of Lando Calrissian. Originally he was supposed to have died in the destruction of the Death Star. It was a fate of that character that the Director argued strongly for, but Lucas protested after seeing the final cut and had the entire sequence altered. During the escape from the Death Star we see the Millenium Falcon become engulfed in a fireball as it races towards the exhaust port opening. It was at that point we briefly cut to Lando who whispers something along the lines of “I’m sorry Han” before we see the rebel ships exit without the Falcon. The Death Star explodes and then we are presented with scenes of Han’s reaction and then a more solemn Ewok celebration.
The other alternate scene was rumored to be nothing more than the absence of Anakin’s ghost when Yoda and Obi-Wan appear to Luke. This was an alternate sequence that remained in place until the shooting script and was another idea Lucas changed at the last moment. Whether or not the scenes were filmed is anyone’s guess. Apart from these two confirmed endings, most other alternate endings are either unconfirmed rumors or speculation based on late alterations to the final drafts.
I meant Marquand, not Kasdan! LOL
I don’t think animatics should count as deleted scenes. Besides, the chase scenes in the prequels are long and drawn out enough as they are.
Also there was a scene of General Madine celebrating the destruction of an Imperial ship that is not listed, the photo looked as if he was in a cockpit of some kind.
Wait a minute. Did I just see yoda communes with qui gon on the list of deleted scenes? That wasnt filmed. Did liam neeson go back and do this for the blu ray set? I want to know more about this. That was a scene ROTS badly needed.
Where is the deleted scene of Yoda arriving on Dagobah at the end of Ep III – this should never have been deleted anyway in my opinion. I read somewhere on the net that this scene was actually in the Uk theatrical release but as a Uk resident It certainly was not.
Bummed that the bonus discs only contain the ‘new’ deleted scenes. There are deletes scenes on the DVDs that are missing from the blu ray.
