Last week, Disney and Lucasfilm revealed a handful of Star Wars: The Force Awakens character names in a clever fashion by releasing them in the style of old Topps trading cards.  We now know John Boyega is "Finn", Daisy Ridley is "Rey", Oscar Isaac is "Poe Dameron", the ball droid is "BB-8" and the mysterious Sith in the black robe is "Kylo Ren".  But there are still other new cast members whose character names remain a mystery, and for clerical purposes this mystery must be solved.  The name "Rey" doesn't mean anything on its own, but it will be useful once a plot synopsis finally comes out.

In the meantime, we're still wondering who Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwedonline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow are playing.  However, a new rumor has surfaced saying that Christie might be playing "Captain Phasma".  Hit the jump for more.  Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on December 18, 2015. According to MovieWeb, Disney and Lucasfilm have registered Finn, Fey, et al., and also a new one, "Captain Phasma".  There's no mention of Captain Phasma anywhere in Star Wars lore, but it does pop up in the fan fiction "Tarkin's Fist", which leads me to believe that it's not real.  Why get embroiled in any controversy whatsoever with regards to fan fiction and ownership when you can just change the name and avoid the issue altogether?

But if they are going with "Captain Phasma", the name could belong to Christie's character, who is "rumored to be an Imperial Officer with ties to the force who is pursuing Finn, an AWOL stormtrooper, across the universe."  I'm not exactly sure what "ties to the Force" are (can you be Force-adjacent?), and it's a bit bizarre that an officer would chase a single stormtrooper around the galaxy unless he has something important.

Nevertheless, I would keep this one filed under rumor, and even if there is a character named "Captain Phasma", it could belong to another one of the new cast members.
