Gary Oldman and Zac Efron Say They’ve Had Meetings for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

As we’ve reported in the past, just about everyone in Hollywood has auditioned or been contacted about Star Wars: Episode VII.  That may seem like a bit of an exaggerating, but the production also put out an open casting call for people living in the United States and the United Kingdom, so they’re casting a pretty wide net.  But among the Hollywood crowd, we can add two more names who have gone on record about talking to the producers of the highly-anticipated sequel.

“I just went and met with [producers],” Zac Efron said to MTV. “So I don’t know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but … who knows?” and Gary Oldman told Sky Movies, “They’ve called. You know, I’m more cynical about it now. I’ll believe it when I’m on the plane home. The deal isn’t done, but yeah, they’ve inquired.”  Oldman also pointed out that he’s no stranger to gigantic franchises: “I mean Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter, Batman, and Star Wars… bloody hell!”  So if you want to have a successful franchise, you need some of that Oldman magic.  Hit the jump to check out video of the stars talking about their meetings.  Star Wars: Episode VII opens in 3D on December 18, 2015.

    Gary Oldman is a legend.
If this is true, I hope they will give him a very good dialogue.

Im pretty sure Gary Oldman was up for the voice role of General Grievous at one point but couldn’t do it because of the SAG or something. I was gutted anyway. Hope he gets a role in this though.

  • God’s Diamond

I hope Gary Oldman is cast and he does another great villain role like Drexel Spivey in true romance or stans field in the professional. A lot of the younger generation don’t know him as a villain, and this way by doing star wars he can be seen by everyone. EVERYONE!!!!! ;)=

    • Yoda has Dagobah herpes

Or how about when he was the villianous Dr. Zachary Smith in the Lost in Sp…. Never mind.

      • Giovanni Luis Jiminez

        Or the Evil Emperor Zorg

I think we’ve officially reached the point where it’s no longer news when an actor says they’ve met with the producers of episode VII.

If you can find a famous actor in Hollywood who hasn’t had a meeting, now that would be news.

Hope they get him. Out of all the rumors and stuff I like the sound of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Hugo Weaving, Benedict Cumberbatch, Liam McIntyre, Gary Oldman, and Chloe Grace Moretz.

Sound like Oldman is willing but no actual formal offer has been made. Which is great as they will need veteran actors to help anchor the film (although Abrams did a great job w the Star Trek films w a cast of newbies). But I say Zac Effron for Nightwing. Just the right age and look for the part. Guy has really come a long ways since his High School musical days and the new movie w Rogan looks hilarious.

Gary Oldman YES, I have really yet to see Zach Effron act, I was planning on making that Seth Rogen movie my first Zach film I see.

I feel like the producers have deliberately met with all these people just to throw the scent off who is actual being considered

    • Reggie1138

      I think so too.

  • Tyler

Give me an official casting call instead of all these rumors.

  • Reggie1138

I could see Gary as a ruthless high ranking Imperial officer or a no B.S. rebel General.
