harrison ford star wars episode 7

As you may have heard, shooting for Star Wars: Episode VII is underway in the UK.  An unfortunate event occurred on set today.  Harrison Ford reportedly broke his ankle and was transferred to a local hospital.  A source told THR that the injury was caused by the door of the Millennium Falcon.  We do not know much about the plot (there are enough rumors), but Ford is said to have a “gigantic role” in the sequel.  Disney released a statement to say shooting will continue as Ford recuperates in the hospital.

Hit the jump for the full statement from Disney.

Here is Disney’s full statement [via THR]:

“Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII.  He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care.  Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.”

Get well soon, Mr. Ford.

I hope they don’t kill Han Solo in the sequels. The only moment where I would have accepted that would have been in Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi (as was originally the idea).

Wait, these guys have just been advertising cheap whores this whole time!?!?!?!

Count me in now boys! I should have never waited this long.

I don’t know about cheap, but they are deceased!

        Diseased.
Damn, Had a BeetleJuice moment there…

      • Sweet Pea

Lol, cheap and deceased whores. That’s some niche pimping right there…

  • Drake

Ahhhh, old man Harrison. At least this (hopefully) proves that Han isn’t just sitting around, giving sage advise.

    • Leo Spaceman

Rumor was a door fell on him and hurt his ankle and his chest. Falling doors don’t equate action, it equates old man syndrome.

      • LargoDeluxe

In what way does a hydraulic door falling on someone “equate” (sic) anything but a freak accident?

      • Kaine Morrison

        reminds me of Futurama

      • Leo Spaceman

Exactly, if the door had hit Fry, he would have gotten up and brushed it off, but if it was the professor, he would have been crushed or something.

  • bigfrog

This wouldn’t have happened if they would have just stuck with CGI like The Prequels. jk.

  • The Flobbit

It ain’t the years, honey. It’s the mileage, am I right?

  • Kaine Morrison

The Falcon hurt Han after Han kept hitting the Falcon… It was revenge long in the making….
Seriously though… I hope he’s ok and gets better soon.

  • Kaine Morrison

The hydraulic door hitting Harrison is exactly what happened to Phillip J. Fry!

  • DEADP00L

You don’t get air lifted for a broken ankle. Word is the man had a
hydraulic door FALL on him and sustained a broken ankle and chest
injuries. The man is 71 years old, they seriously have a problem on
their hands. Not a good sign for Star Wars. Ford literally was the lucky
charm of the movies and for them to be this lax and dishonest about his
    injuries is not encouraging.

I hope his recovery isn’t long term
or something he’ll carry with him. the man has had a flourishing career
and to end it at such a note is just beneath his worth.

“You don’t get air lifted for a broken ankle.”

You do if you’re Harrison Ford, 71, on the set of Star Wars situated in the middle of the English countryside and the hospital has a helicopter.

“Mr Ford was taken by air ambulance to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford with a suspected fracture in his ankle. It is understood he has no major chest injuries but is awaiting results of further tests.”

      • Kevin Carter

To be fair, Pinewood Studios isn’t considered the middle of the countryside, but as he went to a hospital that was about 40miles away, air ambulance was the logical choice.
Also, the hospital doesn’t own the air ambulance it is funded by the NHS.
I like the part of the article where it states,”Mr Ford recently revealed that In Raiders of the Lost Ark, where Indiana Jones proves that the gun is mightier than the sword and shoots the bad guy with a minimum of fuss, that the scene hadn’t originally been planned that way.”
        “Recently revealed”???

      • HORSEFLESH

Never said it owned the helicopter. Not that it makes a difference; it’s only purpose is medical and is paid for by the NHS and the hospital he went to is part of the NHS so in other words the NHS runs both.

Imagine the panic meetings going on over at Disney? And I wouldn’t want to be the guy that was in charge of the hydraulic door.

    • DEADP00L

I just hope they don’t kill off his character just because of this. While we all watch the movie and know why, and wonder what could have been.

      • Joseph M

They won’t do that. Too much money and publicity invested in him appearing. What I don’t think you will see is a lot of below the waist shots.

This production is getting off to a rocky start… I’ve got a very bad feeling about this…

    • Doug_101

The best Star Wars movies always got off to rocky starts. It’s actually good luck, just too bad it had to come at the expense of Mr. Ford.

  • Person

That’s a shame, but if this finally puts an end to Indy 5 rumors, his injury won’t be in vain.

So stupid to have let Chancellor Osborne on set.
Seriously, though: hope the old fella gets well soon. He deals with injuries pretty well, usually. He’s a tough old dog. They’ll have to use the same tricks they did on Temple of Doom for a few weeks, I guess.

    • Sweet Pea

George Osborne is a credit to the UK, what he’s done to the economy in tough economical times is beyond question. Don’t talk about politics if you don’t understand it.

HARRISON FORD BREAKS ANKLE ON DOOR, EVERYBODY PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Intravenus de Milo

Where in the official release does it say that Ford “broke” his ankle? Collider’s headline is not based on the official statement…but apparently from an unknown source.

  • Grendal Sven

He should have let the wookie win.

I actually really liked Indy 4, that’s why I don’t want another one. It ended the series perfectly. You ok there?
