Just a couple of days ago, we brought you this shortlist of actors vying for one of the coveted leads of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.  A new report has recent Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o being added to the list of possible cast members, as she apparently met with Abrams to read for a part as recently as a couple of weeks ago.  Obviously the details on that particular role are being kept quiet, but one possibility is that of the reportedly non-Caucasian part of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s descendant.  That role is separate from the ongoing search for actors to fill the roles of male and female lead characters in their twenties.  Hit the jump for more.

lupita-nyongo-star-warsNews of Nyong’o's meeting with Abrams for Star Wars: Episode VII comes courtesy of Latino-Review, with a follow-up from Heat Vision.  That’s about all the information that’s available at this time, but we’ll be sure to fill you in once more official news is posted.

I’d love this to be true!

For God sake, would JJ just cast someone already! Same release year, and the Avengers sequel is already shooting, while Star Wars still haven’t had one new cast member cast … By all means, take your time and everything, but aren’t they shooting this thing this summer? I’m assuming whoever they cast will have to go through training and condition, plus the normal groundwork of embodying a character. Whatever, I’m sure the casting schedule will not be the downfall of Star Wars 7 :P

Same release year…six months apart. Also The Avengers already had its cast with minor additions, while Star Wars has to find all new actors for the roles with no concrete official word if anyone is returning from the original series.

  • rivertreeradar

i mean do they even have the cameras yet

    12 Years a Jedi.

We know Abrams loves his mystery box marketing before a shoot, but this has honestly got boring. It was fun at the beginning, wondering who would be cast, but now it’s getting silly. Also a worry, as late (multiple) casting so soon before a production this size indicates too many cooks are arguing about the broth. Never good for the final product.

I’d love for Lupita to be in this movie. It’d be awesome if she played a villain (I’m always interested in strong female villains). However, if she plays a hero, that’s perfectly ok to.

Star Wars Episode VII is like the internet’s Twitter account. Any time there’s certain movement it gets posted EVERYWHERE, regardless of its importance.

    • mbmarquis69

And we have a year and nine months more of marketing peek-a-boo to go with this movie.

  • Strong Enough

    will it ever end?

    • Sweet Pea

You should be delighted at this news lol

      • Strong Enough

step off racist ass cracker ass pee pee

      • Sweet Pea

Just saying… I know you love some equal opportunities in Hollywood… I mean we all saw how great an addition Sam jackson was to star wars lol

      • Strong Enough

its not about equal opportunities. Not even hiring just because their black or asian but choosing the best actor for the role regardless of race. Stop worrying about the color of the skin of actors related to the box office and just pick the best actor/actress for the role. and if that means having a black woman as the lead then so be it. i mean star wars is going to do numbers regardless/

      • Sweet Pea

Says the man who was excited just by the possibility of a black person in a leading role, purely bases on race… Your rant there was a long winded way of making my point, glad you’ve seen the errors of your original comment :)

      • Strong Enough

Yes i was excited about a minority in a role. what does that have to do with me explaining that movie roles shouldn’t be equal opportunities and purely on talent? if a person of color does get the role then that is amazing, if he/she doesn’t and someone better does then i have no problem with it. BUT…if it does happen….

WHOOOO PARTY OVERR HURR! WHOO WHOO PARTY OVER HURR!

oh Sweet pea. my biggest fan.

      • Sweet Pea

You’re too excitable, and sadly I’ve seen you use that “my biggest fan” quip on someone else who made you look silly. You must try harder, or just make less stupid comments; your choice my friend. Till the next time…

      • Strong Enough

Excitable. thats a big word for you! don’t be mad i outsmarted you. I should have known you’d reply with such a weak comment. i expect nothing less Sweet pee pee!

      • Sweet Pea

Yes I dumb and no understand big words, good one bright spark, but you actually should learn to punctuate old chap; then we can really talk. The end. Lol, the irony of your last post is amazing.

      • Strong Enough

oooo the grammar diss. i so hurt it hurts me soul. she said i can’t type…ooooo. wait…you are a girl right? sweet pea? cause if not…..that’s weird

      • Sweet Pea

So you don’t know who Pernell Whitaker is… Sad but not surprising.

      • Strong Enough

Girl if you fine i’ll know whoever you want me too. :o

        *cue slow jam music*

but if you’re a guy ARRRRRRRAHA!

      • Sweet Pea

I wish you were funny, I like banter. This is shit now tho. I’m out, stay blessed king.

      • Strong Enough

Banter? I pour out my heart and this is what i get? BLASPHEMY!

      • Sweet Pea

So you don’t know who Pernell Whitaker is… Sad but not surprising.

      • Strong Enough

Excitable. thats a big word for you! don’t be mad i outsmarted you. I should have known you’d reply with such a weak comment. i expect nothing less Sweet pee pee!

  • SomeGuy

They have actually already cast this whole movie and finished shooting a couple of weeks ago… You know, it’s J.J. Abrams.

  • God’s Diamond

Those three dudes….Adam driver. ….Now her….If any or all of them get cast, like I previously posted, this will be a very fugly cast. And considering how into darkness went, I don’t have too much hope for the story either. Hopefully this is just them seeing who is leaking information and they have a lot better looking AND talented cast to be announced soon

    • Pk

Yeah the male lead choices including Adam driver made me barf with disbelief! Seriously is this the best j.j can come up with? Is Hollywood really short on young actors who are good looking and equally talented?

    • mbmarquis69

I want to live in your world where Lupita Nyong is considered fugly. Damn what a good looking world that must be.

  • Matt Sallusti

How come everyone in this galaxy has to be related to someone else? Dumb

I hope it’s true. What a lovely person.

  • http://thenonessentials.blogspot.com/ Sean Chandler

It’s now official…every single working actor in Hollywood has auditioned for this film plus 1,000s of amateurs around the country.

At this point it’s really only news if someone says they HAVEN’T met with J.J.

  • Redjester

I hope she is chosen. Very promising young actress!

  • Yurine

    please be a jedi.
