The Star Wars: Episode VII rumor mill continues to churn away as new plot details have possibly surfaced.  But before we get to those, let’s get to some production rumors following Harrison Ford‘s leg injury.  According to the less-than-reliable New York Post, Oscar Isaac‘s role is being expanded to make up for less Han Solo.  However, another source tells the Post, “‘The basic story line will not change that much.’ The source said no characters were being dramatically expanded, but ‘the order of filming scenes could be shifted’ to work around Ford’s absence.”  This seems far more likely, and the source adds that “Shutting down the movie is impossible,” and I believe that as well.  I’m not sure the movie’s insurance would cover such a shutdown, and even if it did, Disney seems determined to hit the release date no matter what.

Hit the jump for some more Star Wars: Episode VII rumors.  The film opens December 18, 2015, and also stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, and Daisy Ridley[Possible spoilers ahead]

star-wars-mandaloriansStar Wars just can’t seem to quit Boba Fett.  What started out as a cult character was expanded to a main part of the series’ mythology in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, and now the echoes of the bounty hunter might reverberate through the new sequel.

According to Latino Review, there’s word that “mercenaries” might be lurking around the galaxy, and that Mandalorians will make a big appearance in Episode VII.  Time to get super nerdy: The Mandalorians are, per Wookieepedia, “a nomadic group of clan-based people consisting of members from multiple species and multiple genders, all bound by a common culture.”  That culture is steeped in battle, and although they initially allied with the Sith, they eventually partnered with the Jedi because the arrangement was mutually beneficial.  “In later years,” the entry continues, “the Mandalorians moved away from their obsessively war-like and conqueror ways and instead, most became bounty hunters and mercenaries, selling their skills to various individuals and factions in the galaxy.”

LR says that these mercs will be antagonizing the Jedi heroes, and that the “black-and-chrome” armor could be the Mandalorians, or perhaps just new stormtrooper uniforms.

How does this all tie back to Boba Fett?  Because he and his father Jango were Mandalorians.  Additionally, new Star Wars Rebels character Sabine Wren is also a Mandalore.

Moving on, there is a Sith Witch or even Sith Witches in Episode VII, but LR adds, “We don’t know the name of the character(s) nor do we know if they’re loosely based on the Nightsisters of Dathomir, Dathomir of course being Darth Maul’s home world.”  Of course.  Who doesn’t know that?

I believe that as filming continues and new rumors surface, the true picture will start falling into place, and we might even have a vague outline of the plot before an official synopsis or even a logline is released.

George Lucas was always full of Sith.

One of the only EU novels I read was The Courtship of Princess Leia. One of the big fights had NIghtsisters riding their pet Rancors into battle.

Mr Kasdan, Mr Abrams …. make this happen, please.

Better chance he going on the version presented in Clone Wars, which is considered cannon.

Instead of mercenaries, why not flesh out the many bounty hunter from Empire Strikes Back? Like IG-88, the killer robot, Bossk (lizard guy who hates wookies) and Dengar, who was disfigured by Han Solo. If you suddenly have a army of Boba Fett’s, well, it just dilutes Boba Fett, but building upon characters that, despite being only briefly seen, have a huge mythology built around, would fit the bill.

The Nightsisters if Dathomir would be cook. They’re in the ancient past of the SW universe. Back even before Knights of the Old Republic. They aren’t ‘Sith’ in the way that follows the eatablished cannon, but they are “witches” who use the Force to practice dark sorcery.

they showed up in clone wars so they’re still around. clone wars and rebels are canon.

I hope they go the route w Boba Fett that was rumored to show that the character portayed in ESB and ROTJ is actually a different than the clone that was portrayed in AOTC. Apparently some unkown driftered murdered the real one Boba Fett and stole his identity by wearing his outfit. It just makes the ESB bounty hunter more of the bad ass that we all now him to be instead of some silly clone that basically all of the storm troopers become.

God I just hated some of GL idea’s that he used for the prequels. Just really hurt the mythology that was layed out in the earlier films.

Charal the witch from ‘Ewoks: The Battle for Endor’.

        Yeah… Another Lucas divagation

Watch your Clone Wars, the witches (if they are the same ones) are from the same planet as Darth Maul, Savage Opress, and Ventruss, they were responsible for their training and giving them dark powers.

Remember, EU has been cast out, it sounds to me like they are drawing alot from the Clone Wars series as it is considered cannon.

So we are no longer in the Force mythology. We are in wizardry. Where’s Harry Sally ?

Latino Review as the source, eh? Are they still scooping that Heath Ledger has been cast as Aquaman for the Batman V. Superman movie?

  • vitextreeradar

    maybe spoilers…

i read in an article a few months ago claiming lawrence kasdan wants to do a quasi origin story where a mysterious person at some point before episode 4 takes out the boba fett we knew from the prequels, wears his armor and becomes the bounty hunter introduced in the original trilogy thus maintaining his anonymity going forward. if it’s true i think that would be awesome. while i liked where they went with his character in episode 2 this would make it possible to have the cake and it too. since he’s a bounty hunter with a mask it’s entirely plausible, sort of.

Don’t quote wookiepedia, when Disney thew out the ES that site became irrelevant on any information pertaining to the new movies, look no further than the Clone Wars series for your new definition of who the Mandalorians are, who the mercs are, who will father Obe Wan’s secret love-child… ect.

  • Grendal Sven

Remember, Ventruss, and Ahsoka were never killed off in Clone Wars, how much you wanna bet we see them in cameos if not out-rite major roles in the new movies.
