Jason Flemyng Posts Image of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Script

It’s no secret that director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy are currently deep into the casting process on Star Wars: Episode VIISaoirse Ronan herself admitted that nearly every actor her age was auditioning for the film, and even 12 Years a Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor hinted that he’s up for a role.  Now it appears that we have another actor to add to the “potential Star Wars star” pile, as Jason Flemyng (Snatch) has not-so-subtly revealed that he may be reading for a part.  Flemyng’s connection to Episode VII actually goes all the way back to when Matthew Vaughn was in the mix for the director’s chair, as he sorta kinda confirmed that Vaughn might be taking the helm in a video interview.

Now Flemyng has posted an image on Instagram that he claims is the “script” for Star Wars: Episode VII.  Hit the jump for more.

It’s important to note that not only is the script for Episode VII being held under lock and key in Abrams’ mystery box, but it’s still very much in flux.  As such, if this image is indeed real it’s probably a collection of sides written specifically for the audition and not actual pages from the Episode VII script.  This is a technique used when directors are trying to keep their story locked down, and one employed regularly by Christopher Nolan.

Nevertheless, assuming this isn’t a cruel joke, Flemyng is up for a role in Episode VII.  Check out the image below, which was accompanied by the following text on Flemyng’s Instagram (via FirstShowing):

Pint of Stella and ” Star Wars” script! That’s me sorted till 5!

this being a JJ script i was expecting it to be written in crayon on the back of his ‘how to copy Spielberg’ coffee table book

its not like spielberg has made any good blockbusters in the last few years. doesn’t hurt to have someone to carry on his directing style

He was wrong about Vaughn. Why should we believe him?

No doubt Vaugn had discussions for the role. He just didn’t land it. The script page to read for an audition is likely a fake scene to get an idea if the actor is fine for the concept of the role. Still, Abrams doesn’t like people who can’t keep secrets.

I can imagine that the action was intentional. Or part of the plan.
        I can imagine anything.

He looks like a sith, or a soldier type somebody.
In fact, he looks like an old trilogy imperial officer. :)

As Adam reported (though maybe he should have clearly defined for most readers who don’t know), this is probably a side — a script page with sample dialog that’s used for preliminary auditions. In all likelihood, neither the dialog, scene nor character name reflect what will be in the actual SW script. In fact, maybe the scene itself has nothing to do with SW. The scene could be another genre entirely.

Nevertheless, can anyone make out what’s been typed?

Mathew Vaughn should be the director, because jj can not direct shit out of a toilet.

So a name on here says “John” I doubt any Star Wars characters will be named John, this probably not from the actual movie but testing for new actors

    • HORSEFLESH

Yeah; can you imagine how stupid it would be if they called someone Luke or Ben?

If you’ve read a lot of Star Wars comics and expanded universe books you’re not going to really encounter someone named John, at least not spelled that way. It’s a much more common name used in the real world compared to Ben and Luke. A lot of the names in Star Wars that are from the real world are more obscure (Is Leia a common name? Han? Anakin?) Also seeing a name like John just seems like the first name they could think of since it’s so common, it’s like picking a default name with someone of no real identity or unknown, like John Doe? The point is, it’s probably not a character name, it’s just something they put down to get a performance for screen testing purposes, it’s a name as bland as you can get.

      • HORSEFLESH

The point is none of us know and the sequels aren’t the Expanded Universe so it wouldn’t be out-if-place if there was a character named ‘John’ just like there’s an ‘Owen’ (or a ‘Kyle’- if you really want to bring in the Expanded Universe)

There’s no way that’s the actual script, it looks WAY too thin and Flemyng isn’t stupid enough to tweet a picture of the actual screenplay (besides, what screenplay has actual dialogue from the movie on the cover page….)

    • Jimmy B

It’s one paper. Maybe it’s only his dialogue

    • mattinacan

they aren’t going to give an actor who doesn’t have the part yet a full script. These are auditioning sides, water marked pages with just the dialogue needed for the audition.

To hell with JJ and his mystery box. We want to know what we’re getting. We want to know that JJ KNOWS what he’s doing, and so far it’s not been at all comforting.

Did you know what you were getting when the original series came out? Did you get to read the script when the pre-quels were released? Why is everyone so obsessed with knowing every detail before its released. Does J.J. make gold NO! But its still good to go into a dark theatre and experience the movie for what it is all at once. I honestly don’t care who is directing Star Wars because no matter who directs it, they will be hated forever because there is going to be some fans somewhere who will hate everything about it.

I can only hope that he can make the best movie that Disney and his team can come up with.
