Daniel Fleetwood is 32-years-old and has been a Star Wars fan since he was about 8 or 9. He also has “connective tissue cancer called spindle cell sarcoma and,” EW reports, “his doctor gave him two months to live back in July.” Fleetwood has been able to hold on longer, but he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to last long enough to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens on December 18th.

Social media has rallied to help Mr. Fleetwood with the hashtag “#ForceForDaniel” advocating that Daniel get an early screening of the movie. Even Force Awakens stars Mark Hamill, John Boyega, and Peter Mayhew have retweeted messages asking for the early screening.

It’s possible that Abrams might grant Fleetwood’s dying wish. Back in 2013, Abrams arranged a similar screening for a dying Star Trek fan to see Star Trek Into Darkness before that film’s release. The man died a few days after seeing the film.

When it comes to The Force Awakens, presumably Abrams has a rough cut by this point, and everything that’s being done over these last six weeks is for special effects, sound, and perhaps the score. If Fleetwood saw the movie now, it wouldn’t be exactly what ends up in theaters, but it could be relatively close.
