It's official. You know there's been a shitload of Star Wars news today when you get to the article about the real life R2-D2 airplane and realize there's probably more where that came from. So far we've had the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a bunch of rad screengrabs from that trailer, a bunch of high-resolution photos from the film, an update from the panel and a new teaser poster. All courtesy of the ongoing Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim this weekend.

I'm not complaining though. The fact is, I'm so over the moon about how good that trailer for The Force Awakens is that I feel incredibly generous towards anything Star Wars today. Hence this update to let you know that you will be able to fly on R2-D2 soon if you buy the right ticket from ANA Airlines. You can check out some images that Steve sent in from the con below, along with some video. My only question? Are those designs around the engines really going to be there? That seems crazy to me.

Here's the breakdown from ANA Airlines:

All Nippon Airways announced today it will introduce Star Wars livery with the iconic R2-D2 on its newest aircraft 787-9 Dreamliner to mark the beginning of a five-year ANA Star Wars project and agreement with The Walk Disney Company (Japan) Ltd. This marks the first time a Star Wars character will appear on the exterior of a commercial aircraft. The R2-D2 design was collider unveiled to Star Wars fans today at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, just months prior to the character's appearance on international flights in autumn of this year.

There you have it. Will it make R2 bummer noises when it hits turbulence?

LOTR did it first. But now it's STAR WARS turn with Ana airlines A video posted by Steve Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) on
