by     Posted 2 years, 250 days ago

As the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace looms closer, Lucasfilm is pulling out all the stops to ensure that fans burned by their first Episode I viewing experience will happily fork over more money to see the movie again. It’s already known that Episodes IV, V, and VI won’t be re-released in 3D unless Episodes I, II, and III are successful, and now they’re throwing Star Wars 3D glasses at us. AMC Theaters announced today that during opening weekend, fans will received an all-new Hasbro Star Wars Fighter Pod with the purchase of each 3D ticket, while supplies last.

Furthermore, 10 AMC theaters across the country will be hosting event screenings at which fans will receive exclusive Anakin Skywalker Podracer 3D glasses with each ticket purchase. These 10 theaters will also play host to a LEGO feature area, Darth Maul face-painting (at last!), and more. Hit the jump to find out which theaters will be holding the event screenings. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace opens in 3D February 10th.

Wow, threatening the fans! Good job, George!

I would totally see episodes 4 5 & 6 in 3D and on the big screen. I am not bothered too much about seeing the prequels, though I still may for the spectacle of it. A pod race and Maul fight in 3D sounds enticing. Attack of the clones, nope! Sith maybe!

The OT is Star Wars, the prequels are a spin off. So the threat of that seems silly because its STAR WARS we wanna see.

I would love to find out Lucas favorite ever movie, ie, Seven Samurai and add bad cgi robots and silly dubbed dialogue. Show it to him, and say this is how we feel about Star Wars.

(I do LOVE the Clone Wars toons though Theyve gotten epic.) They need to redo the prequels as Clone wars episodes.

I really hated Phantom Menace when it came out. But after seeing Clones and Sith, I actually think Phantom Menace is the strongest of the three. Had they made Anakin a couple of years older, toned down Jar Jar, ditched the midichlorians and let Darth Maul escape, they would have had a solid basis to go forward. I still don’t like the movie very much, but in light of what followed, I don’t despise it as much as I used to.

when is it coming to central florida

That is the emptiest threat imaginable. Nobody benefits more from the windfall of releasing the original trilogy on 3D than George Lucas. If he wants to deprive himself of that he can feel free; I’m not going to sit through those three crapfests.

Luca$ is probably re-releasing the ‘Star Wars’ prequels in 3-D so he can recoup the losses he’ll make on ‘Red Tails’ ($58m budget + advertising + prints= $100m approx. – do you think ‘Red Tails’ will make anywhere near that?), there’s absolutely NO WAY I’ll grace the ‘Episode I’ 3-D release with my moolah unless Luca$ releases the OT’s theatrical versions in remastered anamorphic widescreen DVD and Bluray…

@ Northern Star, first off Gay name! then WOW it must feel so good to be you.

      George Lucas….somebody.

Northern Star…..who? (some asswipe on a blog)

Hey if you Hate Episode 1 then WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU POSTING ABOUT IT??????
O’hey because it’s Star Wars and it get’s hit’s for your site! (and lets be real you need it) TPM rocks and you know it.

    bitch bitch bitch.

    Looms………….FU.

Hi Mr Lucas, how’s it going in Marin County…?

      • Jar Jar Binks lol

DID YOU KNOW… that Jar Jar holds the same role as c3p0 had in OT which was a window for the kids to view and relate to the films. Many adults at the time of the OT release could not stand that character either yet was favored by the younger ones.

        I am just saying…

And seriously if you do not like the movies quit talking about them and let those who do, enjoy them without having to hear about how terrible the fanboys have claimed them to be. I love the movies (all 6 of them) and I am a little bummed that the bitchy fanboy trolls have tried to speak as if they are the primary voice for those who like the Star Wars series.

Whats even more annoying is that alot of these trolls will be re-watching this movie in 3d when it is released

I guarantee the movie will be successful and I hope George Lucas realizes that just because these trolls are louder does not mean that everyone agrees with them.

I also hope he decides to expand the Star Wars series despite the trolls who do not matter anyways. We want more Star Wars George we really do!!!!
