Earlier today I was on AMC Movie Talk hosted by John Campea.   We talked about our thoughts on the Star Wars spinoff movies, whether we think J.J. Abrams will direct the Portal or Half-Life movies, the Star Trek sequel, Die Hard 6, Godzilla, if Venom be in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, found footage movies, whether Marvel might buy back Spider-Man from Sony, and a lot more.  So if you’d like to see what I had to say on any of those subjects, watch it after the jump.

On this episode of AMC Movie Talk (Feb 7th 2013) we discuss:

1) Han Solo and Boba Fett movies on the way
2) JJ Abrams looking at brining PORTAL and HALF-LIFE to the big screen
3) STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS covers
4) DIE HARD 6 on the way
5) GODZILLA Breaking Bad stye
6) Could Venom be introduced in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2?
7) Bowie/Iggy Pop biopic in the works
8) Value of “found footage” movies
9) Could Marvel buy back Spider-Man from Sony?
10) Is Disney losing “originality” from buy other studios?

Have to partially disagree on the Star Wars opinions Frosty. To me, Star Wars IS the original cast, we all waited years for the prequels then when they happened BOOM! Disappointment. Not just because of Jar Jar, bad acting and cg overload. But because it just didn’t feel like Star Wars. (apart from the opening credits)
It was so NEW and fresh that it was like we were tricked into seeing a different movie altogether. There was no real familiarity, aside from sight gags and teases of familiar characters popping up. But even they didn’t look real, Yoda puppet/cgi didnt look like Yoda, Chewbacca looked too new and the world was not gritty and the ships were unfamiliar.

I’m all for new stories of course, but to not have spinoffs that tie up loose ends in favour of starting fresh is a slap in the face to those that want answers, or old dreams realized. The talk and wishes of a Han solo meets chewie/kessel run/Jabba conflict etc is almost as old as Star Wars itself. The possibility is right in our sights now, and to just ay Screw that gimme some new stuff only is like snatching and ice cream from a baby after one lick.

Of course episodes 7 8 9 will be new stuff, and thats gonna be incredible i hope, but, in that future, we have a chance to see some old wishes come true. A Boba Fett film? DREAM COME TRUE! YODA in a possible seven samurai standoff maybe against Vader??? Need I say more? And we still have yet to see what happened between episodes 3 and 4, Vader hunting Jedi, Palpatine building an Empire, Rebellion being formed etc… You must have read fans pleas for that one all these years?

These Spinnoffs are a perfect way to give us old Star Wars fans something the prequels failed to do. Please don’t encourage them to not bother in favour of new possibly unrelated stuff. Theres enough room for all of it. Star Wars universe is endless, but to me, they’ve barely scratched the surface of its potential. A thousand movies may just cover most of it. New stuff is great, but old stuff doesn’t have to mean Prequel crap.
