Beginning yesterday evening and concluding this morning, Lucasfilm, Disney, and Star Wars celebrated the impending Force Friday by doing a live, worldwide unboxing event for some of the biggest new Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys that will be hitting shelves tomorrow. There’s a wide variety of toys to peruse, but the one that seems to have caught most peoples’ eyes is the adorable, remote-controllable BB-8 toy, which I imagine will be sold out at every Toys ‘R Us and Target in the country for the next few months.
But Disney has a plethora of other toys poised to hit shelves tomorrow, and they include 6” action figures in the “Star Wars: Black Series”, Finn’s space jacket, a drone-like flyable Millennium Falcon, kids costumes for Kylo Ren (everyone wants to be the bad guy), Finn, Rey, a Stormtrooper, and the sure-to-be big seller Captain Phasma, build-able lightsabers, and much more.
While this is only the tip of the iceberg as Disney will no doubt release new merchandise throughout the holiday season in an effort to reap billions and billions from consumers, it’s a swell first taste of this new Star Wars era that begins with J.J. Abrams’ seventh episode, The Force Awakens. Here's hoping the next few waves of toys don't spoil the movie before it opens in theaters on December 18th.
