According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures is rebooting the 1997 film Starship Troopers, tapping the screenwriting duo of Mark Swift and Damian Shannon to pen the script with an eye towards making the movie a franchise-starter. The outlet also reports that the studio is not remaking the film but instead will be going back to the original Robert A. Heinlein novel for its source material. Paul Verhoeven and the original cast and crew are not involved.

It looks as though we’re going to have to wait a little longer for the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.  Sony has pushed back the release from February 17th, 2017 to July 28th, 2017. Principal photography wrapped on schedule in late July, but the plan to have the full feature ready to screen six months later turned out to be overly ambitious. Sources for EW say it was a matter of needing a deadline extension on the visual effects, as well as more lead-up time to promote the film.

BUY OR SELL

Lionsgate has released a new La La Land trailer. Damien Chazelle’s follow-up to Whiplash centers on two dreamers living in modern day Los Angeles: Mia, played by Emma Stone, an aspiring actress who can’t land a gig and Sebastian, played by Ryan Gosling, a pianist who wants to open his own jazz club. The pair eventually fall for each other, but their careers are tested when their relationship becomes an obstacle to seeing their dreams come true. The film opens in select cities on December 9th.

Sony has released the first full T2 Trainspotting international trailer. Danny Boyle’s sequel reunites Renton, (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle), and while they’re no longer addicted to heroin, it looks at though their lives haven’t gotten any easier. T2 Trainspotting opens in the U.K. on January 27, 2017 followed by a limited US release on March 3rd.

The bad news continues for fans of the original Deadpool and its sequel. First came the announcement that Tim Miller would be stepping down as director due to “creative differences” and now, Deadpool composer Junkie XL, a.k.a. Tom Holkenborg announced via social media that he would be departing as well.

According to THR, Olivia Munn is in negotiations to join Boyd Holbrook in The Predator, Twentieth Century Fox’s reboot directed by Shane Black. While there aren’t many solid details on the plot, THR does reveal that the titular alien hunter will set its sites on suburbia this time around. Munn will play a scientist opposite Holbrook’s Special Forces commando. A February start date is scheduled with a release date set for February 9th, 2018.

Charles Rojas writes:

Hey Collider crew,

Writing you guys from the 757. I saw that Romeo and Juliette is 20 years old and I think I heard there is works for a Robin Hood set in modern times. It got me thinking that Robin Hood would be better made as a western. Outlaw gang, corrupt Sheriff, power hunger tyrant, damsel in distress and so on. I also think King Arthur would be cool set as a samurai movie.

So my question to you guys would be, what classic story would you like done in a different era or genre?

Thanks for taking my question, keep bringing the filth.

P.s. Mark Ellis you need to come back to the 757 and do your stand up at one of our comedy clubs.
