The producers of The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow have spoken about limited crossover potential among the three shows, mostly because of the logistics of Legends’ time traveling. But in some cases, that could prove to be an important key to these other series. Today it was announced that Arrow star Stephen Amell will be appear on Episode 6 of this first season of Legends of Tomorrow as Oliver Queen … but a future version known to comic book fans. (Warning: comic spoilers start here. If you don’t want to know more, thanks for coming and bye!)

According to EWLegends of Tomorrow will be spiriting forth to the year 2046, where we will meet the older Oliver Queen as well as Connor Hawke (who in the comics is Oliver’s son, although on the show nothing has yet been officially revealed. He does have a son, but…) Oliver will also be sporting a look familiar to comic fans, which looks kind of like a badass Santa. Producer Marc Guggenheim elaborated,

“We’re not only introducing our version of Connor Hawke to our universe, we’re going to meet the 2046 version of Oliver Queen, and Stephen Amell is going to be reprising his role from Arrow. As an added bonus to comic-book fans, Oliver is missing his left arm and will be sporting a goatee, in a nod to the character’s appearance in the seminal Dark Knight Returns. We think this episode features some of the coolest things we’ve ever done.”

Stephen Amell also confirmed the news on his Facebook page:

So there you have it! What say you, fans? Are you looking forward to future Arrow and what it might portend for the series? (As in ... is Oliver married to Felicity, or ...?) And will we see a future Barry Allen at some point as well?

Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursday nights on the CW; check back to Collider for weekly recaps from Evan Valentine after each new episode airs.
