Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is a love letter to fans of Turtles franchise that, like the 2014 reboot, blends action and heart. Much of the film’s spirit lies with the addition of one of the series most beloved characters – Casey Jones (Stephen Amell), an aspiring detective who’s out to prove himself and takes the law into his own hands. The Arrow star brings both toughness and humor to the role.
Directed by Dave Green (Earth to Echo), the action comedy follows The Turtles as they face off against their enemy The Shredder (Dave Tee) and the deadly scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) – who have created their own deadly mutants Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (Stephen Farrelly). Rounding out the cast are Megan Fox, Will Arnett and Laura Linney.
In my video interview with Amell, he discussed how well developed his character is and making sure the many intricate facets of the role weren’t lost. The actor also touched on balancing Casey’s angry nature with the fact that he’s the moral compass of the story. He noted the similarities between this portrayal and Arrow – another temperamental yet well-intentioned hero. With the CW series making him a fan favorite, the 35-year-old shared how that has affected the types of projects he seeks out.

Here’s the official synopsis for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows:
Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After supervillain Shredder (Brian Tee) escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.
