As studios try harder and harder to chase astronomical box office numbers, marketing for big blockbusters can sometimes get a little out of hand. By the time The Amazing Spider-Man hit theaters, someone had already cut together all the footage that had been officially released into one lengthy supercut. But this December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is playing things very close to the chest. While this is to be expected when J.J. Abrams is your director, we’ve seen all the official trailers Disney will release and they still haven’t really explained anything about the plot of the movie. I’m not complaining—it’s nice not to know every beat of an upcoming movie for once!—but the fact remains that The Force Awakens is very much still in the mystery box.

But that hasn’t kept folks from guessing the film’s story (or, for the spoiler-loving, seeking out a multitude of rumors online). One such fan happens to be Stephen Colbert, and on last night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the nerd-friendly talk show host took it upon himself to predict the entire plot of The Force Awakens—and he actually makes a lot of sense. Granted, some of this stuff is pretty obvious, but it’s still kinda neat to see a major late night TV host getting so nerdy on network airtime. Colbert’s geekier tendencies have certainly not been lost in the move from Comedy Central to CBS.
