We have a few bits of casting news for you tonight. First up, it looks as if Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) will make a guest appearance on the upcoming sketch comedy series Portlandia. Set in, you guessed it, Portland, the series starring SNL‘s Fred Armisen and rocker Carrie Brownstein is set to debut on IFC in early 2011. TheWrap reports that, in addition to Buscemi, other cameos for the series will include the likes of Selma Blair, Jason Sudeikis, and director Gus Van Sant. As for Buscemi, he knows a thing or two about popping-in someone else’s show as he was nominated for an Emmy in 2008 for his guest appearance on 30 Rock.

Oscar-nominee Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) and Michael Pena (Crash) have landed roles in Brett Ratner’s action-comedy, Tower Heist. According to Deadline, both will play employees at a luxury high-rise who find that their pensions have been drained due to a “Bernie Madoff’-like crook” who is living house arrest up in a sweet penthouse apartment. As the redemption/revenge story goes, the high-rise building manager (played by Ben Stiller) leads the employees in an attempted looting of said crook (Alan Alda).
Tower Heist also stars Eddie Murphy. The film is being produced by Universal and is prepping to start production in New York in November. In the meantime, you can catch Sidibe on Showtime’s The Big C and Pena in HBO’s Eastbound and Down. Additionally, Pena also has roles alongside Michelle Rodriguez and Aaron Eckhart in Battle: Los Angeles as well as Everything Must Go which debuted at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and stars Will Ferrell.
