We have two pieces of casting news for you this morning. First up, Steve Coogan has signed on to co-star in the Paul Rudd comedy My Idiot Brother. The film centers on “an idealist (Rudd) who crashes at the homes of his three ambitious sisters (played by Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, and Emily Mortimer) and brings truth, happiness and a sunny disposition into their lives while also wreaking havoc.” As long as Rudd isn’t playing another straight man, I’m happy. Deadline doesn’t say what role Coogan is playing.
In other casting news, Cillian Murphy has replaced [Correction] Jason Isaacs in the British thriller The Retreat. According to Deadline, the film is about a husband (Murphy) and wife (played by Thandie Newton) who rent a remote island cottage while trying to repair their marriage. One day they find a biohazard-suited soldier washed up on the beach, who warns them that everybody on the mainland has been killed by an airborne virus. That’s when the psychological fun-and-games begin…” The movie is being described as a cross between Dead Calm and Knife in the Water.
