Steve Watches TOY STORY 3 at ShoWest – Video Blog Review Here

     March 16, 2010

Earlier today I was able to see the world premiere of Toy Story 3 at ShoWest in Las Vegas.  If you don’t know what ShoWest is, it’s the place where the movie studios and the theater owners and operators from around the world come together to discuss the industry and show off future products.  It’s also where the studios occasionally show big upcoming movies…like Pixar premiering Toy Story 3 today.

While we were asked by director Lee Unkrich not to reveal the plot of the movie beyond what’s in the trailer, he said we could tweet and post our reaction to the movie.  And that’s what Peter from Slashfilm and I decided to do as we recorded what we thought as a video blog.  So if you’d like to know what I thought of Pixar’s next movie…hit the jump.

toy_story_3_movie_image_02.jpgSince many of you might not have the time to watch the video, Toy Story 3 is a great movie and one that continues Pixar’s streak of brilliance. Also, the last 20 or 30 minutes of the film is incredible, and I’ll admit to wiping away tears.  If you love the first two Toy Story movies, the third is a great addition to the series and something you shoudl be excited to see this June.

Another thing to know about today’s screening was the movie wasn’t done.  The last third of the film was nowhere near complete and the screening wasn’t in 3D.  And it still rocked.  What I’m trying to say is…the film can only get better.

Finally, before today’s screening John Lasseter introduced the newest Pixar short Day and Night.  While the short was clouded in mystery before today’s screening, I can now tell you it pushes the boundaries of what Pixar continually does and it mixes animation and 3D CGI animation.  I’ll now let the video blog do the talking…

Again, Toy Story 3 will continue Pixar’s streak of box office gold.  Here’s what Peter and I had to say about it.

Kick ass! Thanks for the preview/review/whatever. I really appreciated the format and that you steered clear of spoilers. Sounds like it will be better than I expected (which was kind of how Peter described his expectations after seeing the crazy monkeys in the trailer).

Day and Night sounds great! I can't wait to see that.

One thing I will probably never understand is why Frosty (and countless others) praise UP as some kind of Pixar Pinnacle. So many of the Pixar films were better (including Ratatouille and Toy Story 2)! Just watch the third act again (especially from the point where Carl bumps into his hero through the point where said hero meets his doom) and tell me you still think it's the brilliant film you laud it as. I don't get it.

But aside from disagreeing on that point, I think Frosty and I share very similar tastes so I am greatly looking forward to this!

Also can't wait for more of these video blogs. Wish I still lived in Vegas!

Up is by far my favourite Pixar movie and Toy Story series.Great to hear that this movie is getting positive reviews .Looks like another great movie from Pixar who by the way don't disappoint their audiences .Looking forward to it in 3d .Thank you both guys for early buzz about this movie.

Can't believe that reviewer from ComingSoon hasn't seen Toy Story 2, and then he gets to see Toy Story 3. They have really worked to give people as per their expectation and it is said that hard work does pays one days, so their work is not gonna be in vain.

I think the pinnacle is still WALL-E and THE INCREDIBLES. UP is a fantastic film with true heart and a daring move. You can't sell little Carls and Russells, although the same is with RATATOUILLE. In the end, I can't wait for this to hit theaters. It is so close too. This will be a great year for film from what I can tell.

Pixar and Disney record has been Flawless…

    Having said that.

I saw the first toy story when I was a kid 9 or 10 maybe? I enjoyed the heck out of it then. Now I have a son of my own who is turning 3 right around the time this will come out and can (thankfully) sit still in a movie theater long enough to finish a movie. So I am really excited to be able to share this movie with him.

His favorite movie, and maybe mine too, is Cars. He watches that movie so darn much we had to buy a 2nd disc. I can't wait till cars 2 hits the movies.

Hope these dudes do a videoblog for Clash of the Titans soon. Don't know if they saw the original when they were kids to compare it to. Anywho hope Clash is good.

I remember initially being weirded out by the monkeys too, and thinking “WTH is this?” when I first saw that part in the trailer. Good to know that that worked out fine after all. I'm VERY excited for this. I LOVE Toy Story and Toy Story 2, they're my favorite from Pixar (though I love the other movies, too).

I am so excited to see this third installment! The only thing trumping that excitement, is my eagerness for the TSC Jessie and Bullseye. I'm not accustomed to counting down the days of summer, but the June premier can't get here soon enough for me!

Toy Story 3 is so popular that if you'll check Rottentomatoes, it even beat Godfather 1 on its Rank as the top movie of all time.

Liposuction, given the perils attached to botched up jobs, has scared away a lot of potential clients, mostly who are left to fend off for themselves with boring exercise routines and unhealthy crash diets. Cosmetic surgery provides a safer and better option in smart liposuction. Through modern technology, fatty areas are molded and reshaped, without the damaging side effects or lengthy recovery periods. You’ll get a slimmer, more attractive figure in just one or a few sessions.

It’s hard to find knowledgeable people on this topic, but you sound like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks ..

  • Rebecca – Toy Story 3 Toy Blog

I think this film has to be the best pixar has created. it brings polish and style to a genre that is very lacking at this moment in time – avater…etc

Toy story 3 has the quality that made number 1 so popular – it is multi-level. Both adults and kids can get something different out of it.
