A powerhouse duo is reuniting for a family adventure film called, appropriately enough, Powerhouse. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg worked closely with director Colin Trevorrow on Jurassic World as a producer, helping Trevorrow hone the story for the fourth Jurassic Park installment, and now the two are teaming up once more, but this time to support a different filmmaker. Per THR, Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is teaming up with Trevorrow to produce the family action-adventure Powerhouse, based on an idea by Trevorrow and to be written and directed by newcomer Emily Carmichael.

Plot details for the project are being kept firmly under wraps, but it’s an original story that Trevorrow hatched and marks indie filmmaker Carmichael’s biggest project yet. She wrote short stories and essays for the book Ophelia Speaks, created the comic strip Whiz Kids, created the animated web series The Adventures of Ledo and Ix, and helmed the short films RPG OKC and The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting. It was the latter that brought her to the attention of Trevorrow, who invited the filmmaker to visit him on the set of his Jurassic World follow-up The Book of Henry, where the duo’s discussions led to the creation of Powerhouse.

X-Men godfather Simon Kinberg is also producing the picture, so this marks a pretty epic project in the nascent stages of development given the talent involved. And this likely won’t be the last time we hear of Carmichael, as the filmmaker recently surfaced as a name under consideration to helm Marvel’s female-led superhero pic Captain Marvel. Clearly her talent's catching the eyes of Hollywood.

Trevorrow is currently gearing up to move to London to start work on Star Wars: Episode IX full-time while Spielberg is getting ready to begin production on his next movie, Ready Player One. But it’s nice to see these two high-profile filmmakers putting their weight behind an original project from an up-and-coming director.
