After a Christmas season and a Halloween season, the marketing for Stranger Things chapter 3 has gone all-in on an 80s summer vibe, harkening back to a time when the weather was warm, the shorts were extremely high-waisted, and sweet dreams were, in fact, made of this. If the July 4 premiere date didn't tip you off, 13 firework-filled new character posters introduce the idea that Independence Day will play a large part in season 3's storyline, with a tagline promising "one summer can change everything."
I know the throwback-bordering-on-copying vibe Stranger Things cultivated since the beginning has its detractors, but I've always dug the effort of it all, so I'm into these pastel-ass posters on a visual level even if some of the airbrushed faces are a bit off? (Noah Schnapp looks exactly like he knows something horrible is about to happen to Will Byers...again.) Plus, I relish any chance to see Joe Keery and newcomer Maya Hawke in those delightfully absurd Scoops Ahoy outfits, which are also an indicator of how hard season 3 is going to lean into the classic 80s let's-go-to-the-mall aesthetic.
Check out all 13 posters below. All eight episodes of Stranger Things season 3 will be available to stream on Netflix on July 4.
