We’re only a few weeks from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but if we want to look a little further down the road, we can see the next DC movie, Suicide Squad, on the horizon. While Batman v Superman offers the thrill of seeing two major superheroes share the screen for the first time, I’m more fascinated by Suicide Squad, which is attempting the audacious task of creating a team of supervillains, most of whom are unknown to general audiences.
However, Warner Bros. doesn’t think this will be a hurdle because they’re reportedly very happy with what they’ve seen so far. Variety’s Justin Kroll tweeted out the following:
It’s exciting to hear that they’re so pleased with Suicide Squad that they want to hit the ground running with a follow-up. But where would it go on the calendar? Right now, here’s the current Warner Bros/DCCU schedule:
- Wonder Woman on June 23, 2017
- Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017
- The Flash on March 23, 2018
- Aquaman on July 27, 2018
- Shazam on April 5, 2019
- Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019
- Cyborg on April 3, 2020
- Green Lantern Corps on June 19, 2020
So right now it looks like Warner Bros. is content to have a film in the spring and a film in the summer, but maybe if Suicide Squad is a big enough and the studio doesn’t want to drag its feet on putting Suicide Squad 2 on the schedule, it can slate the sequel for fall or winter. Even if Suicide Squad is a hit, we won’t see the sequel until 2018 at the earliest, so there’s still plenty of time for Warner Bros. to decide on how it wants to proceed.
