Over the past decade I’ve sat through a lot of press conferences, and I’ve always wished the studio/network would film the event and release the footage. The reason is that when you place a number of people together to talk about the making of the project they’re promoting, you almost always get a fun back-and-forth that’s hard to convey in print. Sure you can say Will Smith told a great story about working with Jared Leto in Suicide Squad, but it’s always going to be more enjoyable getting to see Will Smith tell the story.
So, I was really happy when Warner Bros. told me they were going to film the New York City Suicide Squad press conference with Smith, Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje, Cara Delevingne, Adam Beach, Karen Fukuhara, director David Ayer, and producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle.
As you can see in the video above, it’s clear that the entire cast had an awesome time working together. In fact, shortly before this press conference started, the cast was hanging out, laughing, and hugging one another. While you often hear about actors not getting along, it’s crystal clear this cast are actually friends.
During the press conference, the group talked about bringing humanity and humor to the mayhem, the diversity of the cast and characters, if it’s harder to keep the film’s secrets or real life secrets, as well as what they wanted to bring to their characters, and so much more.
