It seems like Warner Bros. has been trying to get Suicide Squad off the ground for some time, and they may have just found the right fit in Fury director David Ayer.  Now that Warner Bros. has firmed up their Superman v Batman and Justice League plans it appears that they're ready to actively get this one rolling again.  Justin Marks (who is also writing Top Gun 2) was hired sometime ago to pen the script.

This could be cool.  Producer Dan Lin has been describing the film for years as sort of a Dirty Dozen in the world of Supervillains (Deadshot, King Shark, Captain Boomerang and Harley Quinn), and I think that makes it right up Ayer's alley.  Hit the jump for more on David Ayer directing Suicide Squad.

Per THR Warner Bros. actively started looking for a director earlier in the year, making it three years since Justin Marks turned in his script.  Sometimes Hollywood is damn slow.  Here's Dan Lin on the project over four years ago:

Okay. So that’s a different kind of superhero movie. For us that’s a super villain movie. It’s almost Dirty Dozen set in the world of supervillains. That’s the only one for me that’s on the front burner.

As fans of the book, what do you think of Ayer potentially directing?  Too gritty for your tastes or just right?
